WC 6-3 103%
Port 5-3 150%

Port have lost to WC, GWS and Adelaide and had 4 x 70+ point wins (Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Freo).

I like Port and think they have the ability to compete in September, but that's textbook flat track bullying.
Just leling coz it's always a crow getting their 2 bob's worth in. Mind you, last year Port lost to a lot of the lower sides so we are on the improve. Might even make the eight.

We're the opposite of flat track bullies this year
Not only have we not bullied anyone, but our wins have been hard fought, sometimes against quality opposition (Port away, Dogs), and other teams (including teams well below us on the ladder eg Hawthorn/Essendon) have bullied us

Don't know that being better at home really fits the description 'flat track bullies'.

I doubt it's even a team issue, they're just better at home due to the massive armchair ride from the umps

What is the criteria for a "flat track bully" is. Is it when your side pounds the crap teams and loses to the better teams? Isnt that just being consistent?

It doesn't tell the full story though, which is the problem with using 'flat track bullies' as a footy term.

Port were competitive in their losses, the Eagles were putrid twice. What makes more of a flat tracker?

Exactly - it doesn't translate.

Downhill skiers is sorta similar but I think more applicable; when things are going well, you're great. When you have to work a little bit, you totally compound. Eagles probably most guilty of that this season IMO, but we're not halfway yet so plenty to play out.

Yeah I never really understood the term. Just seems like if you are a middle of the ladder team you are there for reasons, usually being you can't beat teams above you.

We should've beaten Richmond after kicking 5.13 in the first half. We still 'can't win at the MCG'.

It rarely does tell the full story, but that's not how BigFooty works. Hell it's not how the meeja works.

Yeah but that's not an isolated incident. Eagles havent been good at the mcg for years.

Clearly you have nfi

Round 1 @ North - 16 for, 20 against
Round 2 St Kilda - 23, 8
Round 3 @ Richmond - 27, 21
Round 4 Sydney - 23, 16
Round 5 @ Hawthorn - 10, 16
Round 6 Fremantle - 20, 13
Round 7 @ Port - 16, 20
Round 8 Bulldogs - 12, 15
Round 9 @ Essendon - 15, 18

Other than St Kilda game for and against is 0 for the season. Also lol at only 18-15 count in Essendon game today. When game was close in first half Essendon had count of 9-0 and 11 or 12-1. Nice of umps to give cheap frees when games over to try and show it was even. ******* joke

It's very lazily used these days.

Our best win for the year is a 43 point win over North at Docklands. Not exactly cashing in when the getting is good.

It best applied to us in 2014 when we were an 11-11 side. We had 5 x 10 goal wins but struggled against anyone decent. We even lost 6 games at Subiaco that year so it wasn't a home vs away thing, just beating up on teams who were struggling.

So you're complaining because the Eagles only get 1.5 frees for every opposition free at home?

Don't really care about the frees TBH. Just sick of people saying it only happens at home for Eagles. Yeah because Eagles get s**t run away from home they should get a good run at home then to even it out, which is what happens.

It doesn't even out though does it? You even said it yourself: Excluding the St Kilda game (where the umps absolutely gifted you the game) your free kick count is even for the year. Well Carlton are the best team this year if you exclude those games they lost.

No-one gets the armchair ride the Eagles get year in year out. Really for consistency Freo should get the same gifts but they don't

Odd timing to be making such a comment, since Freo are currently leading the free kick count v Carlton 7-5 despite losing on the scoreboard and in the midfield
(Conversely we lost the free kick count at home v the Dogs last week despite leading at every change)

The free kicks have been there for Freo though, not just pulled from nowhere at opportune times like they are for WCE

edit - that running too far free stings though

It doesn't even out? So in your opinion unless it's 0 difference between for and against it doesn't even out. So that means half the teams in the league are given advantage, your team included.

I don't think the free kick count is even that important, it was you who brought it up. I was just laughing at your selective stats saying "if you take out our huge umpire advantage we don't have a huge umpire advantage".

No I don't think half the teams are given an advantage, IMO umpires are generally good.

Seems like a subjective comment
What did you think of the umpiring at most recent home game on Friday night ?
Anyway , Freo are up to 9-6 now (the perfect 1.5 ratio )
Their previous home game against Essendon was 21-12 in their favour too....
The timing of the comment about how the 1.5x ratio only applies to us is strange
EDIT- make that 11-6

Have a cry and look at Essendon run in WA for the last 10years. You had bad umpiring in the first quarter only and that is because you week constantly chasing our players or getting run down by them. Show me 1 of those frees that wasn't there
