Another Pom...whining about something.

It's funny how you think Vaughan has out-captained Punter when the commentators on SBS even said that it's about even it's just that Vaughan looks better because his team is in a better position.
Who's the one whinging about cheating??
SBS commentators are the judge on who's been a better capatin now? :p

Why do they need to go off for in every game? It's called a Test match for a reason.

The Aussies have only done it once with Clarke and that was because of his back. I don't have a problem with Simon Jones going off but i do with the others.

Dennis Lillee used to go off the ground after a spell of bowling.

Well it's perfectly within the rules, so get over it. If Ponting was doing it you'd be jumping up and down about how wonderful he is as a captain for bringing the subs in

No, i wouldn't i think it's stupid idea even if it was the Aussies. If a guys injured it's ok but anything other i don't like.

So you wouldn't be complaining if it wasn't the other way round?

If it's not breaking the rules then what could i complain about?? I'd wonder why we wouldnt be doing it if it were the other way around.

True but it still comes down to the fact that the Aussies are playing ******** cricket there is no doubt about that and the last thing Punter and his men should do is complian about decisions and moves made by the england side. There are no rules that have been broken that im aware of so for vaughn to be using that to his advantage is smart. Maybe instead of Punter complaining bout the rotation of the Poms maybe he should be doing that himself and try to get the advantage back.

I never said it was against the rules. I just said i don't like the idea.

Yeah, i think the reason Ponting got all angry was a mixture with frustration at getting out at such a vital period in the game and the subs.

Agreed think his anger might of had something to do with Marto aswell wanting to take a single, silly cricket but also brilliant fielding. Like i have said all series just play cricket, when i used to play getting all frustrated over issues similar to these didnt help my tems cause and as a captain it brings the team spirit team down aswell.

the rule states that you may leave the field for an injury or a toilet break and you get replaced by the 12th man. But the bowlers are just going off after their spell and are being replaced by a better fielder who is the english's 13th man!
is that so, is it? please provide references as to where any of this is in the Laws of Cricket.

The Laws of Cricket make no mention of 12th or 13th men. However, Law 2 (2b) states: The umpires shall have discretion to allow a substitute for a fielder at the start of the match or at any subsequent time, and (2c) states: A player wishing to change his shirt, boots, etc. must leave the field to do so. No substitute shall be allowed for him.

What England have done is not against the laws of cricket, although it could be argued that it is not in the spirit of the game. Nevertheless, the umpires have allowed the substitutions, and as such, the English team has done nothing wrong.

Ponting deserves a fine.

Dirty ********ing cheats.

I think Aussies should make a stand and refuse to play the 5th test.

i dont know you, or anything about you - but im fairly confident that that is the stupidest thing you have ever said.

Under the rules a batsman is out if he picks the ball up and throws it back to a fielder.

But the game is better because teams don't take advantage of that.

If we want to end up like american football where you bring on an entirely different team for every situation, then carry on England.

id get symonds and hussey ******** county cricket bring them in and put them both on the field and rest lee and tait so they can bowl more quicker spells

It's not against the rules, but the rules are wrong

7 minutes is more than enough for a bowler to get a massage, or have a drink, or talk to the coaches who'd educate them on how they're bowling and tell them what they're doing wrong

Poms are just exploiting the rules to the limit, it doesn't mean it's in the spirit of the game. The match ref has been ******** weak throughout the summer to allow them continuing with this exercise

Umpires, match referees, and the ICC are all gutless pricks. Cannot make the hard decisions for the betterment of the game.

Why don't CA schedule more matches against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh seeing as the ICC won't do anything about these countries?

Are they cheating? No.
Are they making a mockery of the rules? Yes.

It's unfair to have 2 or 3 of your best bowlers resting in the pavillion while specialist fielders are on the ground. This practice should not be allowed. It is bending the rules of the game. The ICC says it will now watch England closely in the 5th test.

Even if it was Australia doing it, i'd still be against it. Personally, i think this practice should be banned. Expect some rule changes after this series.

Its not about cheating or breaking rules, its about the spirit of the contest and the display of true sportsmanship. As someone has already said, a batsman picking up the ball is out if someone is low enough to appeal for it, and the underarm ball used to be legal as filthy as the tactic was, unfortunately it was our captain of the time who exploited that one much to the displeasure of most Australian cricket lovers. Much like that case, it will be through the exploiting an unwritten rule that eventually forces the governing body to change the rules to eliminate the poor spirit and lack of sportsmanship being displayed.

I'm tipping by the end of 2005, the rule will be rewritten to ensure only the 12th man replaces a player needing to leave the field, and then it will need to be signed off by a doctor to ensure he is actually injured. Toilet breaks will need to be treated like they do in the tennis, an official following the player to the loo, and following him back to the field, ensuring he isnt just having his 40 minute rest break between bowling spells. Not good for the sport IMO.
