My mate works at Edgbaston and he deliberately placed the ball just behind Mcgrath when he was playing a game of pre-game rugby .Timed it perfectly so he slip and bust his ankle .
And another mate of mine sneaked into the dressing room and sabotaged the bats of the entire aussie team to make them bat badly in the last 3 tests...
.......and and I paid off the umpires to get decisions go our way.....

errrr and another mate stole the contents of Shane Warnes Drug cabinet so he wouldnt spin the ball as much....
errrrrrrr The groundsman prepared pitches that didnt suit the aussies.....ooohhhhhhhh hhmmmmm and I slipped some deep heat into gillespies trousers so he wouldnt bowl as well....

do yer see??? do yer see??? its all a conspiracy!!!!!!!

you and your mates are ********ers :)

The '12th man' is not mentioned in the rules - the only phrase used is 'substitute fielder'. Presumably the name is a holdover from the horse-and-buggy days when you just hoped you could get 12 guys to the ground at about the same time.

It's not needed today - at least not in Test Cricket. And why only fielders? If a batsman picks up an injury, he doesn't get replaced. Same with a bowler.

Rule should be - you have 11 players - use them. Strained a muscle? - OK, field in slips for the rest of the game. Need a pee? - OK, field one short for that over. Dead? - well, you'll still be better than Panesar.

The current situation does infringe against the Spirit of the game - and I remember Peter Cantrell and several others the Aussies have used.

lets be honest we abuse the same rule. clarke am smith use it abit to get there backs seen to, an the bowler come off alot to replace spikes an so on. i don't mind it but limit the amount they can come off to say twice in a days play an the 12th man named on day 1 MUST be the player fielding

that's different to comming of after a spell and just sitting down then coming back on to bowl straight away. IT'S A LOT DIFFERENT!

They are cheats. They have no integrity. It just isn't cricket. I am sure if we had Ponting be our specialist fielder all Ashes this summer the Poms would be happy with that.

Just when you thought it had all died back, here they come again.

Got to love this thread. Whenever England are winning, it's 'they're cheating', 'disgraceful what England are doing', 'the poms have doctored the pitch', 'they've paid the umpires' and 'the poms have added noises to the replays on the reviews'.
Please carry on. It's making me laugh how you lot are coming across.

England aren't winning...

So it's not 2-0 then?
The thread was bumped during a test we were winning, as opposed to the previous 2. So yeah, the fact that England don't play within the spirit of cricket has nothing to do with whether you're winning or not

My issue is with the sub fielder, same as it was last time.

What's your opinion on it?

Nothing wrong with doing it. Keeps the bowlers fresh.

Should batsman be able to temporarily retire while batting to go off for a shower, bit of a massage, maybe a sandwich etc. then sub back in when they feel like it?

There are three sessions of play each day, each with drinks breaks. Fielders that don't require medical treatment should be required to limit all comfort breaks, shoe changes etc. to these intervals. Likewise batsmen with constant glove changes etc. You break a bat, fine you can have one brought out immediately. You want to change your gloves again then wait until the next break.

Agreed, it's cheating.
There is nothing in the rule book that a says its cheating unfortunately.

In the spirit of the game - absolutely not. But cheating it isn't

It's cheating, and it should be clamped down on properly.
I don't have a problem with the fielding stuff. Nor do I have a problem with the not walking stuff. After all, we started it. But what I do have a problem with is when you're out, you're out. Are Australia going to have to keep clean bowling Ian Bell to get him out?
