More a couple too many short deliveries rather than moving from the fuller plan. Both players clearly comfortable on the pull.

Where's the yorker though

Surely it wasn't just McDermott's involvement that resulted in us pitching it up and bowling fall over recent times?

Only a true genius like McDermott could possibly think of pitching it up.

Quicks Not pitching it up anywhere near as much as last summer, could spell trouble.

Nice wicket from Lyon there, he's really coming along nicely.

yeah we need to give a little less of the short stuff
it's ok to dry up runs for a bit but the plan is not really working. It's not like Amla and Kallis are complete hacks against the short ball.

This whole, we pitched it up mantra is a load of shit. Some one give me pitch maps from our first session of bowling from last series and compare it to this. The difference is you have the entire Indian team wearing chest guards.

As they say, repeat the lie enough and it sticks.

Our bowling did improve as the day wore on, but on a pitch like this there's little margin for error; we really needed to do more in the morning.

Relax. Our stock deliveries are as full, or fuller, as last summer. Just too many short ones being thrown in too often and too predictably. Not great, but better than every ball being not-quite-a-bouncer, not-quite-short-of-a-length.

The bowling last summer was made to look better by a pretty pathetic Indian batting line up that was mostly over the hill and struggled with the pace and bounce of Australian wickets. Not so easy against a quality South African batting line up that are used to similar wickets.

Even so we did put the ball in good areas last year to make it tough for the opposition. Irrespective of what one thought of India you don't win 4-0 for no reason. Not as if we won 2-1. Today we went back to the dribble we bowled 2 years ago. Starc might've been a better pick as Hilfenhaus looked underprepared.

Clarke's been a gun captain but he didn't have his best day today. Far from it.

Maybe they all got sucked into the little Bodyline pantomime when Amla first came out for his dig.

Short leg, short off, short fine leg, around the wicket.......... got a bit silly.

Certainly did bowl too straight. Didn't bowl many genuine bouncers either.

I highly doubt there bowling short of purpose.

I'd be concerned if Test level bowlers were unable to pitch the ball up consistently.

They are meant to be the best fast bowlers in the country FFS.

true, but surely it would be the stupidest game plan to walk the earth? I mean, under 9's are told to pitch it up.

Anyway its only day 1. Long summer ahead. Nothing to worry about as yet.
