Are we going to address our major issues over summer?

The way I see it, our 2 major issues are:

1. Lack of leg speed, spread, run and carry through the midfield

2. Lack of a quality small forward who can actually hit the scoreboard.

I'm just hoping like Uncle Buck that these 2 issues are addressed over summer via trades/draft/training.

If they're not, we'll be spectators in September again.

I sure hope so, but you could have made this exact post for the last 4 years (even longer, if you're talking just about midfield pace). That suggest that the answer is "probably not".

My curiosity at whoever is holding a gun to Arthur's head making him talk sense aside ...

Our skill level is as important as anything else in terms of what we need to address.

However reports are one of the first things Shaws did when he took over as caretaker (or got the full time gig) was institute regular, mandatory skills training.

We also have a goal kicking coach in Boomer Harvey now, and I remember Shaw mentioning goal kicking as an issue at least once during the season.

So it seems he is taking notice of our lack of skills.

There have been plenty of times over the last few years when our shitful skills have ruined our attempts to run and carry thru the midfield. This year Ats, Poles, Pitts, Hall, Scott, LDU, TT, Jed, Higgo, Jmac, Lmac on a few occasions, Marley, JZ and probably a few others all linked up to run and carry thru the midfield.

It would have happened more if their skills were better drilled.

We are not going to address this problem when we still have terms like inside and outside midfield. The NMFC understanding of inside midfield is a plodder who has decent physical strength who could grab the ball and hack it forward. Outside mid means 1 or 2 player who would run and carry. These days, every mid is an inside player who is expected to contest for the ball and apply pressure without the ball.

I think we addressed our major issue last winter... and the rest will flow on from there.

Hey, I had Brad on the coffee cart, some of us are trying.

I keep wondering how much better our forward line would like with Stevenson in it. He might have even got a bet on Brown winning the Coleman.

I think we have tried to address the pace issue the last few years with Hartung and Aaron Hall, just has not worked out.

Small forward is what I want.
