With unexpected cold in South America and the impact of the Ukraine (food bowl of Europe) situation plus countries banning export of grain plus rising world wide inflation is Australia in a position to increase production to help humanity. Do we need to be pragmatic and pause our societal beliefs and allow farmers to increase production plus use our wealth of resources to allow cheaper food supply.

I think everyone needs to work on their vegetable garden, including maybe rooftop gardens, community gardens, etc. Solve the food and climate crisis in one go.

Seems to be the main issue for developed countries, me might see a move away from so many wheat produced products (which might end up being a good thing)

Less likely to happen where importing food from the ukraine is their only option.

There's certainly going to be problems in a couple of months when the Ukraine harvest feeds a good chunk of the population of the world, so prices will go up. Not sure there will be overall shortages, perhaps just shortages in countries which cannot afford the inflated prices. The price of noodles, bread and other wheat-products will go up globally (the price of wheat is only a minor fraction of the cost of a loaf of bread, the price of petrol probably affects it more). Hopefully enough aid is provided to get some poorer countries through this short-term disruption.

Plenty of rich nutters who would like to become famous by ‘farming’ the third world
there shouldn’t be famine…totally intense and wrong

Good news, Australian grain growers have had a bumper year (1% more crop than last year as global grain prices increase) There is a grain shortage globally due to civil war , governments stopping sale of grain internationally. and lack of sunshine, especially in South America. It is just a start to our global farm production.

That's great news, what are your sources for all this put of interests sake.

We have been headed for global famine since the 1950s. Much like we have been running out of oil since the 1970s. We also need to worry about the reds under the beds.

You may think this is funny, but I can understand your point of view mainly because you have grown up in the the best era for humans. You have not experienced plague, pestilence, famine or conflict that has riven humanity since the dawn of civilisation. The window you live can any time turn to historical norms. Before you object to this ask your grandparents of life when they were young and what their parents told them. Globally there is not enough to feed the world due to a grain shortage. It will have major geopolitical consequences.
