Just read this article on King Alistair Clarkson's current holiday complimentary of the Hawthorn FC
I posted it in another thread , but it was so intriguing I thought I would start up a thread.

http://m.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl...ay-from-waverley/story-fni5f8ge-1227116915142

Apparently King Al Clarkson (KAC )has gone over to England to study the training facilities ,resources and coaching/management techniques used in the EPL . Not sure if This is a typo, but the Hawks are looking to spend $35 million to gain that extra edge on the rest on this training facility
King Al Clarkson wants to be more of an EPL club manager and be a delegator to at least 10-15 sub coaches
For us to compete with the top sides and to actually improve are our facilities and coaching team up to or better than the standards of our opponents?? it is really quite frightening how much Hawthorn and KAC really want to succeed. He wants them to be a mini ManU and SirAlex type or a modern day Man City.
We can improve as much as we like within ourselves as a whole, but unless our improvement rate as a whole is greater than our opponents we will just be making up numbers,
This to me is our real issue where improvement is needed if we are to improve within the competition as a whole
Discuss with care

Funny, I get the feeling that if this were Dimma, you'd be saying "he's getting ahead of himself, how about winning a final first??" etc.
Well Considering DH did a four year apprenticeship under KAC you would have thought he would have picked up some general ideas of doing things the Hawthorn way.
I know you're being a smarty here, but seriously this article explains the gap between us and the best. Even the last paragraph where he talks about the senior players educating the new kids
Now that's culture and leadership

35 Million. Jesus. Sure that is not a typo?

Guess we need to give 200% to keep up.
Mate gone are the days where you get a few members to rattle tins on the streets to get things done
Shivers they must be building a Kings palace for KAC and penthouse suites for the boys

Looks good while they are winning, as soon as they slide, this spend will kill their club. Our domestic comp is not big enough to sustain that type of spend. Not even Collingwood could do it.

Dimma & Co. have been in the U.S in the last couple of years scoping out idea's from the NFL, NHL Clubs/Franchises etc as well so kind of thing is nothing new

You can look and study every theory and plan of all the great clubs of any particular sport in the world, but if you don't have a clue what you are doing to start with, or have any foundation to build on from the start, looking elsewhere is futile and waste of time.

Dimma could fly to Mars to see how the local Martians plan and play sport and he'd still be more alien to coaching Australian Rules Football than the Aliens! o_O

The only way they can spend $35,000,000 is to take on massive debt.

If this was an article about Richmond the thread would be all about Dimma and Gale destroying the club with debt.

He's good with money I heard

So they learnt the money ball player theory. Why haven't we merged closer to the Hawks? The gap seems to have broadened ??????
Or is it a five year plan??

Another defeatist comment that refuses to accept wanting to improve. C'mon Flea give me some positivity

On the field you realise the hawks have only beaten us once in three years yeah?
Do you even comprehend how far out of the shit Gale, Dimma and co have pulled this club out of?
I'll give you positivity.
1 - consecutive finals since the 70's
2 - no more debt
3 - one of the biggest memberships in the league
4 - a stand alone vfl team to ensure consistency of message through the club.
We are improving. Every year the club has improved in various ways.
I'm really trying to be patient with you. But your posting is very consistent in a negative manner. You enjoy that half empty glass of milk boy, me, i'll enjoy this half full bourbon ;)

i get annoyed when ppl want to kick the Club without stopping to consider why we had a shit 1st half of the season.....
e.g half our list not getting a pre-season being the main point then injuries in the 1st half of the season & a lack of depth to cover for them & in some cases overall form was down on too many Players at once. it's no coincidence that once we got our best side playing in the 2nd half of the year we started winning again.
Hawks may be kicking ass atm but lets just see how they go once Mitchell/Hodge/Burgoyne etc retire and see how they go then. as for spending $35m...... great way to cripple a Club with debt. we should know, we only just got out of it.
Benny Gale/Dimma & Co. came in when we were in a massive whole. in fact as a 'competitive Club' we were basically non existant & had folded.
it was always going to be a long road back and it always will be. no Club is ever 100% and any team can improve thier list/facilities etc. we are getting there & will get there eventually.

No one has demonstrated a want to make us great. A whole lot of talking but no action.
I don't think the club is Jesus incarnate, but I honestly do not comprehend your posts about Richmond being content with the current position, or idle, or all talk. Please explain why you think this? It just doesn't make sense.

From the original premise, it's degraded to the usual wankfest. Nothing in the last 5 years has shown the club is satisfied with where it's at. The vision is north. That's where it's headed.

Off field i agree we are better off thanks to the members, but have the Gale/DH combo really improved us on the field?
I thought winning premierships was the name of this caper.
I much prefer a bottle of shard.:p

Improvement is about exactly that. No rebuild consists of a 5yr plan with a premiership. Its not the end of the rebuild yet. If you think dimmas tenure is no better than wallets, your an idiot.

This is not even a matter of opinion. DH/Gale has taken us to our first back to back finals series in 30+ years. There is no way anyone can argue that we have not improved as a club under these two.

It may not have been rapid improvement, and you may not think its adequate. I certainly don't think we're sitting pretty at all. But it's improvement.

Agree ,but as usual you missed the point of the OP like many others
Are we improving at a greater rate than our competitors?
