In order to win premierships you need to win finals... and make prelims... First it was Port who havent gone past us now its another prelim finalist .. north, that havent gone past us. Some serious delusional people on this board now.

The last 2 preseaons we have lost Tuck, King and Jackson out of out 2013 "15 win" season.... the 2013 side would beat the 2014 side... We went backwards in 2014 with the easiest draw we will see for a long time.

Are we really improving??? NO we havent improved over the last 12 months.... As mentioned we have not improved our assistant coaches stocks after losing Leppa, Campbell and Daly. We have not improved out talent pool via free agency and trades.

So in order to improve we need our players we already have to improve collectively.... this will take clever coaching from someone who needs to understand the squads strengths and coach to them. My worry with Hardwick is he has a picture in his mind on what works and how he thinks the side should play to win a premiership which doesnt actually fit what we have..... Too many times he has played players out of position, or given them roles that doesnt enable than to play to their strengths.... Grigg as a run with player is a perfect example.

But crap! I keep forgetting in 2013 that King (a barometer of our side for years), Jackson (best and fairest) and Tucky (best in and under at the club) were all key players in getting us those 15 wins. And considering both King and Jacko were done by half way through this year thats a huge amount of expereince we have lost.

Yes ... That's my point. We haven't improved

Lids, Lids, Lids, Lids and Lids :(

Fair to say we could do with 2-3 more
That's the one I can think of.

I like Houli's creativity but he is so, so slow that he is too easy to take out of the game.

I think Richmond need to draft a fast, endurance ball user to run flank to flank and link play. That first kick into the zone needs to be aimed at a player who can get into space before it's closed down, the second one is to a much more open ground so it's not so important.

Ive been saying for seasons Speed is what we need. Ellis isnt too bad but yeah need more speed

Its funny nut, but the drafting has not been completed yet. To say we have not improved with a ball not being bounced for the 2015 is still to premature IMO. We may draft a kid who slots straight in, we may take a gem in the rookie draft, Taylor may have a break out season or even our players that are on our list may rise a extra level.

Obviously the club feels the existing list will "improve" again next year. We just have to wait till next year to see if there right.

Just on this as well. I know the easy assumption to make is to say we did not improve or even regressed this year. The win loss column would suggest that BUT there was real growth in the list this year. In 2013 would we have won 15 games with king, tuck, jackson, Maric, and others out of the side for large chunks of the season ?

My opinion is no. To be able to steady the ship, and get on the run we did, and win consistently once the list adapted to the changing of the guard, was a real positive. I know some might disagree but it bodes well for next year.

Read my previous post ... Was talking 2014.... And to this point in time from 2013. We have not improved. I'm not saying we can't improve ...

Dimma knows it now. He alluded to it after the elimination final loss.

Unfortunately all we've done is picked up Taylor Hunt, he might be quick but he's not a player we want streaming through the middle kicking it to Jack

Dan Ruchardson said we want an inside mid with first pick... Hope he is foxing

Aren't we one of the better teams contested ball wise?

We are obsessed with it IMO. Creating and winning stoppages seems to be our focus. Our flat footed lock in type play got smashed by port. If continue down that track it will be Dimmas final season IMO

Grabbing an extra inside mid or two releases Cotchin, Lids and Martin onto the outside more and takes the pressure off them to win the clearance. That means that the load is spread around and a couple of players aren't getting beaten from pillock to post. We will definitely pick one or two up in the later rounds and the rookie draft, but we should be going for class in the first round.

As to the gameplan, I agree. I think we looked too much at the tackle stat at the end of the season and the coaching staff said that we need to get better at it. We moved from winning the ball in tight and spreading to letting the other team get it, then tackling them. Then if a tackle doesn't stick we are caught in front of the ball and can't run back fast enough to try and win it back. I would think that Dimma has realised we are far better as a running side as in the latter half of the season, excluding the Port game of course.

Professionalism is a question thrown up this year that hasn't been addressed in the past. Players and football department.

Unless we are lucky to get a Ollie Wines than that's a lot to ask a first year player...
We could of had greenwood...

As nut said, if we draft someone they won't be ready for 2-3 years. Miles, Conca, Vlas plus Cotch is fairly decent for inside mids. We also have Titch who is a centre clearance specialist
