Yep, rest the colts and bring'em back when we can cash our chips in...I like it:thumbsu:

I hope the Crows get wiped off the park tomorrow, obliterating their confidence to an all time low, then having all the home town pressure of facing the Tigers next week. If we play a similiar game style as last weekend, we should record our first win of 2010 by beating one of our modern day nemesis. For the record, their winning sequence of 4 matches dates back to R8, 2007!

Hypothetically, you can guarantee that if this was a must win game for us to push for a top 8 spot in another season both Cotchin & Martin would be heading down to sleepy hollow on Sunday.

This is where the tanking versus 'managing of players' debate becomes a blurred line!

It's kind of nice to not have to deflect knob comments about us tanking because it is soooooooooooooo clear to all & sundry that we are just too crap to win games at the moment anyway.

Conversely, it's almost like you are allowed to 'rest' younger players with niggles etc. but anyone over 25 needs to be flogged into the ground regardless of your position on the ladder.

Pitty Gold Coast are comming in next year because we could have beed sailing towards the number 1 pick and no-one could have raised a peep about tanking!

I would have thought that resting up two guns in an assured no win game so that they are firing in a game against a team on the same wins (or rather total lack there-of) so that we have our best chance of beating them would be seen to be about as far as you could get from tanking! This seems to be try all out to get a win and NOT tank.

I agree but also imagine a win in the next couple of weeks is just the tonic for a young side who must be starting to question their beliefs and what the hell are they doing there.

A win would boost everyone.

WHat odds Deledio is a late withdrawal too?

It's a valid point you raise...

On one side it is the 'select your best possible team week in week out & try to win every game' argument.

Versus

Taking a more pragmatic view... understanding that a team like The Tigers this year may only have one or two wins in us so we target the most likely opponent in the most likely week in the future & 'taper' our efforts to peak that round! (And try to ensure our best 22 is fit & available then...)

Sort of lends a bit of weight to a scenario posed by Cogga a couple of weeks ago.
That Dreamtime at The G later in May is the night that Hardwick releases the shackles & drops all of the pieces of his puzzle into position & on a prime-time stage shows our true potential!!!

God I wish it were so...

Hmmm - one spare game on the membership and no kids on the Dreamtime weekend. Starting to think about a trip that weekend:p

Hardwick seemed to be excited about Martin matching up on Selwood. Hard to tell what the club is up to
Not soreness but disiplinary reasons , Perth radio preview show this morning . So that is not great news but good to see he has a bit of a good time in him  . Would have needed a rest anyway !

Happens in the EPL all the time. Its one of the reason a lot of teams are dirty on Man Utd and to a lesser extent Chelsea and Arsenal, is that the managers of bottom table sides rest their best palyers when they play us, to save them for the games that they can potentially get something out of.

Martin and Cotch will get plenty of opportunities to go up against the cats mids. I reckon its more important for us to get a win or at least put up a really competitive performance against a side that we're a decent shot of beating. Nothing to be gained by going to hard against the cats at this stage.

Is Griff a smokey for next week if he kicks 4-5 goals this week against the top of the table Sandy?

We're not resting up for the next 4 weeks, we're simply managing players that are important to our future. If they are sore and run the risk of doing more damage by playing that would keep them out for 3-4 weeks I'd prefer they sit out a week and get themselves right. If it was a game that we needed to win to make the 8 I have no doubt both would be playing. Given we're playing the reigning premiers and have a snowballs chance in hell of winning why not rest them.

I'd really hoped that Hardwick would rest Martin several times over the season, he's carrying too heavy a load for a boy his age. Regardless of how well he seems to be coping, we gain nothing by asking too much of him too soon. Very pleased he's been rested.

Cotchin's obviously still struggling with injury and/or the lack of fitness that's caused. Again, we gain nothing by rushing him before he's ready.

maybe im an idiot but i would have thought there was much more to be gained by pitting our kids and ourselves against the best. sheesh martin v selwood would have been great to watch. if they need a break give em a break against the struggling injury riddled crow.

I'm with Bo santa, gotta try for a win if it's a choice of the two. Besides, if they needed a rest (or are carrying a significant niggle as Cotchin seems to be) then they needed a rest...no point pushing them beyond what is sensible at this stage...plenty of time for great head-to-head matchups in the future. :thumbsu:

I'm calling it, we will beat the Crows next week on their own dung heap. Their season is shot, they have no heart left, the old slow crows will struggle to win 4 games this season now.

If you look at the next 4 weeks we play 0-6 Adelaide, 1-5 Hawks, 2-4 Essendon & 4-2 Port. Hopefully we'll win at least 1, maybe 2 of those 4 which would be good for the kids. Hopefully we'll have a lineup as near as possible to our best 22 out there while we are playing these games.

This is true, Hardwick admitted this morning in the pre match on foxsports that Cotchin and Martin were pencilled in at the beginning of the season to have a rest for this game.
