Just came back from a luncheon with Max Gawn as the guest speaker. Things to note:
  • He said he will most likely be done in 2 years. Unless we're right on the precipice of a flag.
  • He doesn't want to do media. Despises the over-analysis of the game and 'doesn't want to do what people like David King and Jordan Lewis do'.
  • Really wants to do State of Origin.
  • Runs a weekly 10km around the Tan/Albert park which initially the fitness staff were against but he played his best footy with doing the weekly run. He maintained that it was good for his mental health even if the fitness staff were against it.
  • Our next captain could be Jake Lever or Trac but he said that both would need to improve their form. He said Lever hasn't been his best and Trac needs to be more consistent. He said Ed Langdon could also be the next captain, even though he's not your typical 'captain type'. He said of the other guys he was high on Trent Rivers or Daniel Turner as our next captain. He was also adamant that he loves being captain and won't ever hand it over. Someone would have to grab it from him.
  • He said that he used to hate Zorko. For most of his career. But now respects what he's been doing at his age.
  • He said, he's caught up with Steven King and is excited for new staff and new players.
  • He said our team is basically the same team since the 2021 final whereas Geelong has about 12 new players since their last flag. So we needed to turn over the list.
  • When asked about the trade period he said, he said Max heath will most likely be coming (as we know) but he interestingly said that he rates Sam Flanders as one of the best half forwards in the comp with the way he plays it. He said that Kade Chandler and I think Tholstrup watch Flanders' footage weekly when learning how to play that HF role. He also loves Bailey Humphrey when asked about who he would like to see come form the trade period.

Anything is better than listening to Snoop Dogg. I know I’m old, but I’m sorry this is shithouse. The pre game entertainment is supposed to get you up and about, but listening to someone just talk into a microphone is nothing short of horrible. I’m sure the young ones are enjoying it but it’s not for me.

Been rumours going around we're still a VERY good shot at Flanders, so this is great news!

yeah, I agree. I think the only way to make up for the lack of hype is to be creative with the choreography. like have a footy, and fend off like 20 back-up dancers as they come towards him, to the beat. Like just something! but nup, just stands there and doesn't a boring shuffle dance singing/speaking into a mic.
