Isn't it more than just coincidence that Whitnall has struggled during the worst 4 years in the club's history? He certainly hasn't been on his own during this period. Otherwise we wouldn't have won 2 wooden spoons in that time.
If anybody thinks that we shouldn't have traded Whitnall for Pick 12, when Hurn went at Pick 13 is a fool.

I would be very surprised if Melbourne would have been prepared to trade Pick 12 for Whitnall. If that was offered I think the deal would have been done. The best we would have got from Melbourne would have been a second round pick, I would suggest, and in a draft that everyone would have you believe was not great (time will tell) it was much better to stick with the devil you know.

Whitnall's value was quite high at the end of last season following a 3rd in the b&F, weight loss and no huge back ended contract. In 2004, the saints offered a second rounder for him with the back ended contract, poor form and him being overweight, therefore a 1st rounder was porbably the most likely scenario considering the deals of Ottens, Thompson etc

I hope he proves me wrong but knowing that we could have had Hurn, Murphy and Kennedy, arguably the 3 best in the draft if we had traded Whitnall, really makes me angry.

How do you know we would have taken Hurn if we had another pick?

Would we have then missed on Bower if we took Hurn at 12?
I don't. But if he was supposedly in the mix for Pick 4, he would be a relatively good chance to get picked at 12 considering guys like Dowler and Clark were gone.

AS for Bower, thats a good point but there is nothing concrete to suggest the the Eagles would have taken him at 13.

Whatever, whats done is done I guess and lets just hope these guys will become immortal players in 10 years times.

We didn't rate Hurn as highly as Colin Wisbey and got the players we wanted so we shouldn't moaning about what might have been.

Hawks have done well to get so many picks but Ellis is a stick who won't play next year, Dowler's lucky to be walking, Birchall is a similar type to Bower but less likely to bulk up IMHO and Muston and Bailey are highly rated for their position but a year or two away from dominating a game.

Since we did the best out of this draft, why are we so jealous of what other club's have?

If Hawthorn add any more youth they will have to install a creche at their new Waverley training base.

I am far from unhappy with what Carlton got at the draft.

All I was pointing out to all the people that said we should keep Whitnall of what we could have had.
