Yes. Less excited as we can't even go to a bar and watch it with mates. Or watch it at home with mates. It's going to be the most isolated feeling watching the GF this year. Just my flat screen, BF, and some solo beers.

I'm also less excited because I'm tired of Richmond ruining the GF experience for neutrals.

Excited. Game should be a cracker between two sides that should match up well.
Couldn't give a rats that it is at the Gabba and not the MCG, makes no difference on the tv,
and best of all we finally get the game in a civilised time slot.

Taking out the teams as a factor, way less for me. Can't get together with mates which is what makes it so special. The GF is like our adult Christmas - best day of the year and everyone makes sure they get there. Watching at home with just my wife, kids and Bigfooty just won't be the same, as much as I love two of those things.

I'm also not sure about it being a night game, but that might just be the yelling at the clouds coming out in me. ******* clouds.
100% with you. Having been to 2017 & 2019 grand finals I was content to at least watch with my brother or at a pub with friends however watching at home with the wife and young kids.... geez much different feeling. I really hope we win but then what the * do I do if we do win it? Stand on the porch drunk singing tigerland by myself at 11pm?

I wonder how many of the people who have said in so many threads that the GF should have it's venue decided after the PF to give home advantage to the higher placed team will consider the spectacle and event to be lacking this time....
Bang on. The grand final isn’t just a game it’s a event, take that away from the MCG and straight away is loses something. Maybe it would be a bit better in a football state however still not a patch on the spectacle the MCG provides it.

If Melbourne were playing obviously I'd be excited but as a neutral it's definitely less than other years. No BBQ with mates/family this year, the whole season's been a bit of a fizzer really and since the NFL has started I've been watching that more than the footy.

It's got nothing to do with my team not being in it either, my team hasn't been in it for 20 years :(

Footy marathon, into coodabeens, into cox plate, into BBQ tea, into pre-game texts about who wins the norm smith, then placing last minute bets on an overcrowded TAB site, into watching the teams leave the rooms and come up the race, into the national anthem, then the Grand Final....in a c**t of a year.

I cannot wait, the beers are ready (The Dan Andrews song got me in the mood) and I will be cherry ripe for some big footy trollololing.

It will still be a great day, regardless of who can or cannot be around. It will be forever etched in the memory.

Ablett's final game, Dangerfield gets his chance, Dusty shooting for 3 Norms, Tom Lynch throwing his weight around, Balta v Hawkins, possibly Taylor's last hurrah, Selwood going for his 4th flag (first as captain), who plays on Danger/Dusty if they play forward etc?

Bring. It. On

The game itself and its intrigue - I am just as excited as any other year. Probably more so than a couple other Grand Finals in recent memory.

For the day - yeah no anticipation. No getting drunk at 2pm - no pub fare - no people watching the die hard supporters - all that will be missing and missed.

But hey, it’s one year, just wait till footy is back at a packed MCG. It will be immense. It will feel for all supporters how it felt for bombers fans to see Essendon run out at the start of 2017.

It takes everything that makes it a grand final out of it. The atmosphere will be bad. The dew will ruin the way the game is played. The entire spectacle, that is the grand final, has been ruined this year (for good reason to be fair as people's health must come first).

There was zero dew last saturday night. Not one drop.

Pearly-dewdrops' drops.

Feels the same as last year so far, especially because of the teams involved. I don't have a soft spot for Richmond, GWS or Geelong even if I was happy for Richmond in 2017.

I think GF day is going to feel like a bit of a joke at the Gabba. Optus or Adelaide Oval would have created a much better spectacle. Anyone who bags Optus hasn't been there for a big game.

I’m less excited about everything this year footy or not, 2020 has been such a crap year.

But this game should be a cracker 2 exceptional teams competing fiercely I can’t wait!

Mildly interested at best. Neither team is one you really wanna cheer for, I’ve seen them both win 5 flags in 13 years. No real underdog vibe here, Covid is the icing on the cake.

Melbourne Storm is pretty much where I’m invested in this weekend.

It's actually a discussion about the spectacle rather than the teams if you read the first comment.
But if its not your team, its almost never a spectacle. If I watch with mates, I would only end up seeing about half of it, most of the rest of the time is spent socialising, most people dont sit there glued to the TV.

The event matters.
Moving it on short notice takes away from the event (the shorter the notice, the bigger the impact).
When putting on an event, bigger is better, and for that nothing matches up with the MCG.

Slightly less so - but not because of the two epic teams who have made it to the big dance.

My reasons being the stadium will not be at capacity (love watching games with a full capacity, and GF even moreso), and also the reduced game time (AFL is meant to be a war of attrition, and Finals even moreso)

I am looking forward to seeing a night Grand Final though.

Going for a premiership so I’m bloody excited, I can’t wait.
However of all the Grand Finals we’ve played it’s the least exciting due to the build up, where it is and only able to watch with wife and kids.

I would love a day GF also but understand why it’s not this year.
Night grand finals suck, kids up late and I’ve got to get the over excited pests to bed whilst either celebrating a flag or having just lost a GF.
Getting them settled for bed is an annoyingly longer process than it should be.
Than once they are asleep if we win, I celebrate quietly?
Night grand finals can get stuffed and even moreso in lockdown.

I just want a damn flag, that’s the main thing and I’m still pumped for it.

For any neutral living in Melbourne it’s absolutely fair enough you may not be as excited.
But for non Victorians surely this is not too bad?

What will you be doing saturday night instead?

ps. The reason channel seven want it at night is more people watch tv at night. More people have better things to do with their time during the day then at night.

This is what I never understood. There is far more better things to do on a Saturday night than during the day, at least imo.
What is on during a Saturday afternoon of a GF that is so great? Gardening? House chores? Going for a Walk? Pfft.

A Saturday night is never boring outside of covid melbourne. So I don’t understand why we need a night Grand Final outside of this year.
Is it only to appease non football people in the northern states who prefer some sunshine than watching the AFL GF? These people don’t go out at night and are instead twiddling their thumbs on that Saturday night with nothing better to do?
