I guess Mad Monday will tell us everything we need to know ... I hope he decides that he likes the big time ...

More seriously, I'm excited by his potential, and the fact he can hit a target at decent range ... would love him to be considered the steal of his draft in a couple of years.
In a couple of years he will be drafted into the Tasmanian team. The question will be if we get compensation based on his performance then or on his original draft selection at 60? With the Saints typical luck it will be the later.

It’s hard to know how the Tassie thing is going to work and yes there will be heaps of concessions.

However this is not the Russian army and one assumes players will not be forced into a club they don’t wish to play for.

Not all Tasmanians will want to leave their established teams playing in bigger cities to be part of of a developing club playing on an island down south.

Some will of course, through a combination of state pride, family and cold hard cash.

But some I’m sure will want to stay exactly where they are.

Hopefully Arie is one of the latter.

He will 10000% be looked at and targeted.

He is by all reports thrilled to in be VIC and actually wanted to get away from the Island.

People over estimate the amount of Tassie born players who will be desperate to return. Some will but most won't want to leave the metropolitan Melbourne lifestyle in their mid-20s for that small town vibe.

That is my understanding of how he feels.

Ultimately, an extra 300-400k and few years at this level may have him feeling like it’s time to go back.

But as it stands. He wants to be in VIC and hasn’t enjoyed the big fish small fish bowl lifestyle of Tasmania.

Why do people assume these guys will want to head home? I know a few Melbourne based Tasmanians. Most can't wait to get out if they're young, none of the people I know headed home once they'd settled here.

Guys from Launceston are a long way from home if it's based in Hobart too. Two and half hours each way to training doesn't exactly let you stay at home with family.

As I said before he got game. He's the most advanced kid we've had in years. Playing at Sandy he racks up touches and they don't get wasted. Tidy up his one on one game and he's already a weapon. I'm not big on banking players before they've done anything but I'm fairly confident of him being a high level player.

The only thing that will hold him back is attitude. If he works hard and stays humble he could be a star. I think James Siciliy should be the guy he sits and studies footage from. His ability to intercept but still make life hard for an opponent is the perfect model.

By then he'll be a settled part of the team, with mates etc. Doubt he'll be rushing back to Sleepy Hollow.

Most advanced is probably the incorrect way of putting it.

He is less advanced then Wilson physically.

But he has the most important asset in our game at an almost elite level - his field kicking, as he can kick further and more accurately with penetration then his peers.

His intercept game for instance - requires work.

Steven may/Sicily is an amazing player he could be

He's already a top 3 kick in our team with Nas and Sincs.

He's advanced in that his game is already standout at the level he plays at every week. None of the other kids looked close to as ready compared how he's been playing. Wilson has an easier time because of the position he plays too.

As an unaccountable runner you aren't required to hold up structures as much. Obviously Wilson has the physical capability to run all day which is huge but for impact and ability Ari looks way ahead.

No kid is going to walk into a side and be perfect but he has a very strong form line at Sandy to base his work off. Physicality comes but for his ability to read the game and use his kicking to advantage he's heaps out in front.

The defensive efforts of Wilson have been on display since day dot. He is anything but an unaccountable runner…

He can defend but he's not playing an integral role. He's going well but he's got a much easier job.

I'm expecting Pick 1 (ok ... ok ... pick 74 after Tassie are given the first 73) for our All Australian backman who bangs through a dozen goals from outside 50 ...

Though Roo was drafted from Qld and not Tassie

He was but the Tassie FS thing gives access to kids of Tassie names regardless of how many games over 100 their parents played for an existing AFL side.

For example.

Grant Birchall played close to 250 games for the Hawks.

His kids can be Tassie eligible too.

Sorry for butting in and it be Arie's thread.
