A shotgun wielding bottle shop armed robber has been shot dead in the leafy Melbourne suburb of Park Orchards.

The man, aged in his late 40s, was pointing a sawn-off shotgun at a bottleshop attendant in the leafy suburb of Park Orchards when police fired upon him, police said.

It would be a dangerous procedure to carry out imo.

I have very little sympathy for an idiot pointing a gun at another person and being subsequently shot dead by police. CCTV hopefully was working to show that reasonable force was used. The civil libertarians and far left will have a field day otherwise with police brutality claims.

Don't leave home in the morning with a loaded shot gun in the car, with the intent to rob, terrorise and possibly kill someone.

That way you won't end up dead......
