Armfield vs Kennedy/Masten

Dennis Armfield... the somewhat forgotten man of the Chris Judd trade, is proving Carlton used their pick wisely. His first year for the Blues was promising, but he is really coming out of his shell this year and providing a great deal of run and hardness at the ball.

On the other hand Masten is looking ordinary. Skills are a real worry and sorely lacks pace. He was embarrassing against Carlton, missing simple targets at will.

Kennedy, despite his big heart looks extremely one dimensional. Poor at ground level and a terrible kick for goal. He can take a good overhead grab, but one wonders if this one trick will be enough to see him through.

I propose a vote between Dennis Armfield and the combination of Masten & Kennedy.

I think Carlton overall won the trade.
Judd has lifted the team over there as captain and is worth 4 players.
Armfield is an athlete though, nothing more.
Masten isn't the only one lacking in skills at West Coast.
He'll be a brilliant player and Kennedy will prove more than handy in a couple of years when West Coast are up.

Kennedy's proving to be one of the game's better forwards. It's too bad Carlton let him go.

If Armfield had been drafted at 3 then he would be seen as having bad skills and he doesnt get enough of the ball etc. If masten had been drafted late like armfield, he would be seen as a great pick up, a star of the future. My point is, people expect way too much of a kids, especially when they are drafted early. Give them a chance to play a few more years before these threads start to open up.

Armfield has shown more than Masten.

Armfield has everything down pat save long kicking. This can be fixed. However, you'd be stupid to take him ahead of Masten who has massive upside, or Kennedy who's becoming a very solid player.

Kennedy looks the goods. Will turn out to be an excellent CHF for the Eagles. Takes strong marks and kicks regular goals and realistically the CHF for we're missing. That's life. We had to give up something substantial to get Judd, that's fair enough, and I'm sure the Eagles would be very happy.

Armfield was the steak knives in the deal. For that reason I won't compare him to Kennedy, who's alot better. That's part of the main trade, not an Armfield trade. For someone who's the steak knives at pick 46 Armfield's a reasonable pick up.

As a carlton player im going to say that i think Armfield is a dud. Sure he is gutsy, quick and is willing to take on the game but hes lazy, has poor disposal and in general i have just not been impressed with him this year. It looks like Armfield and Brown are fighting for a place in our backline and i would give it to Brown. I really liked Kennedy when we had him and im sad we lost him but it was worth it to get judd.
