I'll see if I can spot the similarities when I watch some of the championship games during the next couple of weeks. I must admit that when watching the WA games, that I wasn't really focused on him alot, but he can play. Thanks for the heads up Gilly.

In hindsight it's probably not the best comparison....flower it, I'm officially giving up on player comparisons

I know that he won't be.

Your right, based on his handful of games it's clearly obvious he'll never make it  Especially seeing as he's never showed any sign of potential. I mean hell, being named in the Under 18 All Australian squad is eeeasssssy. I bet you, who seems to know everything, could make it with ya eyes closed! You seem very good at judging people before they've had a chance to prove themselves, but then again, your the expert (or so you like to think )

He looks like a very exciting package, having watched the small highlights package of him on the CFC website.

He has electrifying pace, and the thing that I like is that he uses it in games. Unlike many other people that have great pace, who seem to be unable to use it on the big stage. His 2nd and 3rd efforts are fantastic to watch, as are his tackling skills, which can be attributed to his rugby upbringing.

We have to remember that we can't expect too much from him, although we are of course allowed to hold a sense of optimism about what these recruits may bring to the Carlton Football Club in 2008 and beyond. Armfield looks like an exciting prospect, and whilst he is 21 years old, he is still relatively new to the game, so has a significant amount of improvement left in him.

Make no mistake, he has a hell of a lot of work ahead of him. However, he seems to have a great character, the will and determination, as well as the work ethic to forge a career in the AFL with the Carlton Football Club, and at this stage, that's all we can ask of him - because as we know, talent will only take you so far in the big league.

Still cant believe we didn't draft Gaertner, Gourdis, or Scott Simpson with pick 46. We lost Josh Kennedy and we draft two small midfielders. Stupid decision

Because we didn't rate any of them near Armfield so it is stupid to go for needs when there are no players that you actually rate in that position.

Our side was to top heavy last year anyway so we are evening it out a bit. Last year most our talls were played out of position in the VFL for such reasons.

Don't bother with lou, he's a bit of a whinger.

Gourdis and Simpson maybe, but it looks like the club have gone for players with some foot speed who use the ball very well.

As for Gaertner, i'm not so sure that the club actually needs someone of Stevens ability. Plus, I would imagine all 16 clubs might want to see what he looks like after another 12 months worth of development.

blh blah blah, and we also needed some quick, reliable tough defenders.....drafting isn't like following a recipe, sometimes the right ingredients aren't there....how many times do you have to be told before you realise this ??

This mindset of only being able to draft 17/18 yo's, really gets to me. A 20/21 yo is going to be ready to go sooner than the majority of 17 yo's, if they have the talent of course. He's not the tightest defender you'll find though. He is, IMO an out and out attacking weapon.

An absolute spud of a pick.

I honestly cannot fathom this selection. How this pick wasn't used to try and develop a key forward is absolutely beyond me. This bloke will not get senior games. His pace is obviously a big plus, but his hardness is being grossly exaggerated. Who will he usurp in our midfield?

In my opinion this is the most ridiculous selection in the entire draft, and just because Carlton picked him up doesn't mean that we all have to automatically assume that he's a 'diamond in the rough'.

Good luck to the bloke, I hope he proves me wrong, but I just cannot see this turning out positively.

(Also, it is somewhat concerning drafting somebody whose nickname is 'Pinhead').

Feel free to call me cynical, but I feel this pick has been truly and utterly wasted.

Concreter by trade, Rugby, 2nd in seniors best ad fairest, average 27 possies, left and right foot, being taken to provide speed and toughness in tackles from defence which he has more than anyone else in the draft. Is an absolute tough net.....name me the "tough" players in our squad.......Fev then fresh air. Will not be played as a mid and will play from day one. He could if need be replace in the midfield any of Blackwell, Bentick, Betts (better endurance better tackles, better disposal), Russel, Wiggins, etc, etc.

If you consider Fev, Fish, Waite, Jackson, Edwards, Kreuzer, Hartlett, Setanta, Houlihan, Cloke, Gibbs and maybe and any of (grigg, austin, hamspon, aisake, jamison ) able to play, or developed to play up forward we have a fair bit going on.

With Hadley and browne being further additions to the back line this has eased the requirements for backs even further enhancing options up forward.

All round too easy to call, certainly no one can write this player off as a spud just yet.

I think you might want to have a look at the last smokey picked up at pick 45 and wasnt a KPP development prospect....

Simmo wasn't a smokey. He was considered, on talent, by many to be worthy of a first round draft pick. Clubs were put off him by the fact that he was incredibly skinny, and there were queries as to whether or not he would be able to put on enough weight to handle the rigours of AFL football.

Completely different situation to Armfield who was never rated a potential first round pick by anyone as far as we know, however Wisbey did rank him at number 8 in Murphy's draft.

Geez, you really love to whinge, don't you?

Gaertner and Gourdis weren't selected by anyone, so they are obviously superstars in the making. I personally can't believe we didn't take one of them with pick 1

I would normally ask of you how much you have seen of these guys, but I think we all already know the real answer to that one.

The club has selected who they think will be the best for the Carlton Football Club in the future, and I would trust them every day of the week over someone like you who probably doesn't know one from the other.

List these people.

I put my cue in the rack with regard to Armfield. Every man and his dog has had a go at me for writing him off.

I watched him play in the WAFL and was impressed, but obviously didn't watch enough games to see how good he is.

Watching the highlights of him has badly turned me on. I watch a lot of WAFL, and have a lot of mates over there, and none of them rated him that highly. (They still rated him, but not necessarily AFL standard).

I've decided that I was wrong.

All things considered, I retract my comment about Armfield being a 'Spud'.

I still stick to my comments of preferring to draft a KP, but I can't help but think I was wrong in writing him off so quickly.

So, to every Carlton supporter, SHARKS ON A PLANE OFFICIALLY APOLOGISES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for jumping the gun and being an obnoxious ********. I was only concerned about drafting smalls when we needed a CHF.

I'm not a troll, and I hope people forgive me.

Go PINHEAD!!!!

overall I would rank Simpson currently about 4 or 5 out of that draft with only Goddard, Wells, Ebert being better at this point and even those not by much.

WELLS! Your kidding right? Has to be the most overrated injury prone top 2 draft pick in history. I know alot go on about that we should have him here if it wasn't for the penalties we had to pay. But right now if you line Simpson and Wells next to each other I'd take........

Kade every day of the week.
