Just wondering if anyone knows why Armfield didn't play against the tiges? I thought he showeda fair bit during the preseason.

Given other small defenders in Grigg, Carazzo and even Stevens now didn't play where does this leave Armfield's chances of cracking into the side?

I guess the same could be said for Browne

Could just be a form thing with Armfield, or it could just be that the MC couldn't find a matchup for him. Richmond don't really have those small creative forwards, and that would have been a matchup for him.

Possible that he could be recalled next week when we play Brisbane - he could be a good matchup for Hooper.

whos he going to replace though..
grigg for johnson
tex...is there room for him yet?
then theres armfield.

Johnson can't get dropped. We have finally found a rebounding defender who has great disposal.

He will stay in the team on his left boot alone.

He set up a few goals directly on thursday night.

Carlton went hard for Goddard and Drummond to find this exact player (Johnson may not be the same quality).

Armfield is behind Johnson, Stevens, Scotland, Houlihan and Grigg in his preferred role, and he's neck and neck with Steven Browne so he was always going to struggle to get a game first up. He needs to put some performances together in the VFL to really demand a spot in the team.

I would like to see Army pushed forward to keep our forward line pressure super.

Who does he replace in this role: Eddie, Gartlett or Robinson?

Personally I thought all three did a wonderful job and I wouldn't replace any of them for a backman/midfielder who's an untried forward and who, at best, is of equal pace to that trio.

None at the moment, but i think he should be changed for that role in the future.

His disposal is not good enough to be a rebounding HBF

I think his best bet moving forward is to try and take Joesph's role in the team as a quick tagger who can win the ball so he needs to work on his defensive side.

Armfield has improved his disposal and can kick with both feet.

Armfield's pass to Fevola running at top speed was perfect and lace out.

The pass to Russell that ended with Yarran's goal in the NAB Cup was perfect.

His best position is as a rebounding back flanker with his legspeed and tackling.

McMahon with hardness. :thumbsu:

Armfield is definitely quicker than Garlett, Betts and Robinson.

I just watched some of his clips on youtube from he's days in the WAFL and his tackling and attack on the footy is unreal.

Hope he can get into the senior side somehow.

Where to put him??

In regards to why he didn't get a spot on Thursday well stuff knows. I thought he definitely showed enough in the pre season to warrant a spot in the side. About a week before the game he said he was unsure whether he would get a game because Ratts said that they didn't know if they had a match up for him.

If you have watched him playing you will notice he nearly always plays on a lil quick Aboriginal player... obviously because he is bloody fast but yeah, i guess they didn't have a match up for him...

I spoke to him the day before the game and he reckons he was pretty unlucky as I do but thats life I guess. I reckon its gonna be hard for him and browny to get a spot back in the side while their winning...

I personally think he should go in for AJ, I thought AJ did alright on Thursday... not fantastic... made a couple of small mistakes but yeah dunno if its gonna warrant getting dropped but as everyone says Grigg and Walker both have to come into the team... So dunno where that is gonna leave both him and Browny, I guess Time will tell...
