Imo Armitage will make it.

It's Eddy that I think will not, whilst alot here think he will... I dount it. Jones has speed and puts on forward line pressure, its what we want and offers something. Im not sure what Eddy has going for him. Geary was similar, but we didnt get to see much, still I thought Geary was better.

When I think of Armitage, I think of a bloke that isnt afraid to go in and under, get the ball and make a contribution to the team. He will make it, Ross just needs to give him a go and put some faith in him. He's like a L.Ball player, goes in and gets the ball... doesn't have the speed like a montanga or l.hayes though.

Going by photos on AFL website Armitage looks leaner and has lost the puppy fat from last years pre-season.IMO if he puts in a big effort now and repeats the heroics from last seasons Nab. Cup he will be well in the mix for the opening round.

Has shown some good signs but I'm led to believe he doesn't work hard enough off the field.

For a coach like Ross Lyon that's a huge deal. I believe RL's philosophy is along the lines of only the players that are willing to get the absolute best out of themselves will get games.

That's why players like Jones, Eddy, Fiora have gotten lots of opportunities this year whilst guys like Armitage and Birss who have looked better, haven't.

That's just my opinion

This is a catch 22 in that it leads to some mediocre players getting games when they shouldn't but contrastingly forces a player like Raph Clarke to work harder than ever to force his way into the team and also makes him a better player.

while you are right and it is a big deal, i think it would be ludicrous to be adopting this philosophy with no leniency. i couldn't make any sense of the fact that Mcqualter got called up for the finals over Birss, when Birssy had destroyed Nathan Van Berlo and Brent Stanton, two very handy mids, in rounds 21 and 22.
if the objective is to win games for the football club, wouldn't it make sense to play the strongest team available? I'd rather have someone like Andrew Lovett in my team than Aaron Fiora, regardless of their respective workrates.

as for Armitage, i have heard him get hyped up all over the place, but haven't seen much that catches the eye when he has played. in this regard, it reminds me a bit of Tom Hislop. but hopefully for St Kilda, Army doesn't go down the same path :)

Is this criticism of Armitage coming from sour grapes on your part?
He seems to love playing against Essendon ,looking back to a top game against you in 2008 NAB Cup and then probarbly his best game in the AFL in round 5.
On that friday night he was quite briilliant and he looked better than any of your so called young guns.

sour grapes? hardly, he played well in round 5 though., based on the stats i just looked up.

haha, better than our young guns? so he had one good game, Bachar Houli, Kyle Reimers and Sammy Lonergan all had much better seasons than Army. that's what counts in the long run.

late in the season, when he got a guernsey again, all i remember is that he didn't get his hands on it very often.i don't know if that's his playing style or if it was a bad night, but he didn't impress me much. but while he hasn't been all that impressive from what I've seen, I'll hand it to ya that Clint Jones looks the goods :)
