Education & Reference Army Reserve Hours?

G'day,

I've found my self with a lot of spare time since I've started Uni so thought I'd try something worthwhile and join the Reserves. However I'm wondering what the hours are like and if I could still manage Uni, Footy and my other casual job. I read somewhere that they have weekly meetings on Tuesday. But that seems pretty laxed and hardly a "part time" job.

Anyone able to help me out?

Most of the larger universities also have regiments attached, particularly for officer training.

You need to commit about 4 nights (3-4 hours, once a week) and one weekend a month. On top of that is four weeks training (in two week blocks) per year.

Recruit training used to be two weeks, but maybe four weeks.

Getting paid for going camping on weekends is a great bonus! Hope you're fit, the forced marches with a full (back) pack on are real killers.

Rookie camp I hated, for the 5.15am reveille, but I sure learnt how to iron the bloody uniform.

Bit confused with the bolded bit above. So is it 3-4 hours 4 nights a week or you have to do 3 - 4 hours a week and you can spread it out to an hour a night for 3 - 4 nights? Also, do the weekends interrupt with playing locan footy? Thanks.

one night a week, and a weekend a month, and before you start you have to go to 'boot camp' for 4 weeks i think.

My friend's boyfriend is in the Army Reserve here in Melbourne and it seems they've cut the weekly requirement to fortnightly now. You don't spread it out, it's just a night you have to be there.

And the one weekend a month - yes it would interrupt your footy I assume, you are away all weekend.
