Good contribution. Honestly, I don't see why keeping Arnot in the team (if it must be at the expense of Vlastuin) and rewarding a bloke who has been belting down the door in the VFL and proved he's up to it at AFL level is such a one sided argument on here. He is EXACTLY what we need in the team this week. Vlas will come in and play a handy game no doubt but I reckon Arnot could really put some authority in our midfield.

Both deserved a spot in the team IMO.

Biscuit to go out and tackle the hell out of a mentally weak Norf and Vlastuin to do what he did in the NAB against them.

I would have rested Jake King considering he got subbed out of the game. Maybe...I duno. Both good. Arnott stiff

To be fair it'd be more stiff to rest Kingy considering next game is his 100th.

Yer but picking guys based on milestones is a dangerous practice indeed. Kingy has been knocked around a few times this year and probably could have been given a rest on performance alone. Bu as you say it would have been stiff to rest him as well. That depth :thumbsu:

True, no way I'd be giving that Kosi spud a game even though it would be his 200th. Glad we don't have many duds like him on our list anymore. :thumbsu: That being said Jake I'd 100000000000x better than Kosi, so you can't really compare.

We tend to overrate first game kids because they're new and exciting. Arnot is stiff and didn't do much wrong but had less impact than Vlastuin has in probably 7 of his 8 games. He's been getting it close to 20 times a week and going at nearly a goal a game. Arnot will get another chance down the track but we need to field our best team.

Arnot did everything right in his debut (except that pass when he should have had a shot but all is forgiven)

All those talking up his tackling need to be reminded of the tackling of the guy who replaces him. I rate Vlas as our best tackler already from what I've seen this year.

He'll find his way back into the team soon enough and his post game interview on the RFC website was all class saying that's he's prepared to do his time and go back if need be.

Something special is brewing. See youse all at Etihad this Sat!

Cheer up harry high pants, my comment was tongue in cheek.

I have not problems with Arnot, and I think he played well on the weekend. But you can't compare him to Vlas when it comes to genuine football ability. We want to win this game and obviously the selectors think that Vlas is ahead of Arnot which warranted the change. I think you have also forgot how good Vlas tackles and his pressure on the contest.

Please go back and re watch the games this year if you think Vlas hasn't had a impact. He has a lot better than Arnot. Don't kid yourself.

I dont know if im overally happy with this decision.

I think Tigga is very good, dont get me wrong, but from a coaching point of view, if you have someone come into your side who registers the most pressure points (60) from any richmond player this year, then they surely deserve another crack at it. he set the tone for us against the saints, and his pressure would be valuable against a side like the Roos i would of thought.

The other option we could of tried is drop white to give him a full game in the 2's, Ellis Sub and Tigga in.

I'm looking forward to the day we can play both of those blokes in the same side, watch our tackle count go through the roof.

Let's be honest Vlas has had 1 standout game, a few solid ones and a fair share of 'did he even play?' games. Shows great promise no question but I reckon Arnot being dropped after playing exactly the role we NEED in this game to a tee (ie a hard-nosed tackling machine) seems a little counter-productive.

As a first year player, he's had 5 games with 20+ possessions in his first 8, one he was injured in the third (albeit having a quiet game). He's laid 6 tackles in 1 game, 5 in another and 4 in a further 2 games. He's also contributed 8 goals. That would be a better start than Deledio had to his career and he won the rising star that year. So Matty Arnott had a decent game, doesn't even compare to Vlas who is equally if not more hard-nosed than Arnott (and doesn't lose his feet so easily). I think you will find that you've posted this without acknowledgement of the real situation and solely based on the last game you can remember.

One way we could get all our new guys games under their belt is to rotate them. Play them in 2-3 week blocks before giving one a rest. For example say Ellis could have been rested this week, Vlastuin comes in. Then the week after Ellis comes back in and Biscuit is given a rest. I know this would disrupt team continuity but one thing I have noticed is that when youngsters play too many games in succession they get tired and their output drops off. I don't know if that'd be a fair way to do it but it's just an idea.

Interesting.
Vlas is class, hard and tough, and should end up an A grader. Arnot looks good, maybe a B grade potential I would guess. So long term going for class.

But also, on Arnot, he had the wrap from within the club at the start of the year as a guy that needed to get his head into the right space. Looks like he has. So I hope they said 'you were great, but we're brining back a potential star. Keep it up and you will play AFL regularly.' If he has the right attitude he will go even harder and that is good. Hopefully this is going to be a development issue as well as a winning the next game issue

Good post. Happy to concede that Vlas is at this point the better player. He was made to earn it at the lower level, came up, showed a bit and got every opportunity to adapt and improve his game at senior level. It just irks me when a player without the top 10 tag follows the same path (arguably more consistently at VFL level) has a great game in the seniors and then gets the flick. We should've found room in the side for him to get the opportunity to back it up. We need the message to be clear to our developing players.

I understand that Tiggas debut was against Freo but he also had 11 touches on debut, but just the 4 tackles. Obviously Arnot didn't have as much talent as when he came into the club otherwise he would've been drafted earlier, although we landed a bargain with him. It seems as though everythings coming up Milhouse at Tigerland!

Got no problem with Vlas coming in for Arnott but should he hav come in front of Tuck.

Not sure Tuck really needed another run at coburg .

No doubt we will have the same discussion when Tuck returns.. Arnot drops down another peg in the midfield. If Tuck plays on next year Arnot will have his sights more on Kings defensive forward role than a midfield game.
