If Simpkin has indeed been concussed - looks like they're assessing him for neck and spine damage as well - they should seriously consider a season ban.

You play preseason to get some miles into your legs, to remember how to move and hour to run. You don't go as hard as you would during the H&A, there's nothing on the line and nothing even remotely worth doing that.

Angus Brayshaw retired barely a month ago, due to repeat concussions.

6 weeks is an inadequate consequence for an act that could result in a person leaving the game, let alone an act which could result in the life long effects of concusssion.

It's like recalling the days of smoking on public transport and people bringing eskies full of grog into the cricket thinking back to the days when this was just considered a heavy hit and all part of the game.

AFL have made it clear that any types of uncalled actions involving head high contact by players of any sort, will not be tolerated and should be penalized accordinglyā€¦

Well this is a line in the sand moment because the AFL tribunal system has been piss weak with many decisions they have failed to either hand down the appropriate punishment or have completely let players off far too easily even unpunishedā€¦

12 weekā€™s minimum, Tribunal has to set the bar high with these types of cases, could have smothered or tackled but left the ground to hip and shoulder an opponent directly to the headā€¦
