This is a new season, and we're going to kick things off with a little bit of a change.

This thread is for discussion of the games we aren't playing in. It is not a thread to constantly refer to how well/badly we are going in our own games, nor is it a place to ruin the enjoyment of others with constant jabs or referrals to Carlton's woes.

Any posts that do so continuously will get deleted, and anyone who continues to push the envelope afterwards will find themselves threadbanned.

The ball moves so quickly! Bugger all chance to structure up. One on one defending is almost impossible at the speed.

Exactly but also pretty much every rule change from the last 5-10 years has been driving AFL towards this type of footy. The article puts it better than I ever could but I don't think it's good for every game to pretty much look the same and for you to only really be able to win one way. We are also discouraging specific player types from the game which is something a league should not be doing.

Watching the 1st half the Hawthorn v Sydney game. How open is the game being played?
11 goals and we aren't even into the 2nd half the 2nd quarter.
It's no wonder teams playing a contested game drop their heads in the 2nd half.
The players know they are done and have nothing left compared to the opposition. It's not that hard to follow.

That's how I see it. I am a big fan of the NBA but I expect a bit more variation with AFL in terms of how games look. And to start the season it is looking a bit to samey.

I'm with you on this. Doesn't have the same vibe anymore. It's almost like touch football it's that open. Less contest, less shows of strength. It's all about run and athletes over footballers. Still you have moments where you appreciate the skill but something just feels lacking..
