The goal umpire may well have gotten the decision wrong.
But he didn't break the rules of the game, which is what the ARC did. That is not 'getting it right'.

As much as it was enjoyable to watch Richmond lose (especially in those circumstances) it was also with a sense of dismay I watched that game - high intensity, high levels of football IQ, good goalkicking and a never say die approach from both teams - as it really emphasised just how far we still have to go. If we’d played either side tonight we would have been torn a new one.

Obviously we don’t have the level of experience of either of those sides but it’s hard to get experience when you keep missing the finals. I know we are improving but we simply have to make the finals next year to give ourselves a chance to get accustomed to that type of football. Regular season games just aren’t the same. Based on that I’m tempering any expectation of us finishing top 4 in 2023 and contesting for a flag is realistically a 2025 conversation.

Yes it’s great Richmond are out but if that happened to us would you be happy?

Goal umpire doesn't need definitive evidence. He makes his call and we are to trust the call, like any other decision over the 120 minutes!

Two mistakes. Should never have been called a goal. Should never have been overturned.

Maybe you and I couldn’t see it, maybe the commentators couldn’t, or the crowd, but have you considered that the bloke in the ARC may have seen it definitively go over the post?


And in the end, isn’t that what’s the ARC for? To correct incorrect decisions?

This game, this competition drives me insane, you have a goal called by the goal umpire and it’s reviewed, the rules are clear, you meed definitive evidence to overturn a decision, the score reviewers comments were a lie, it’s clear on the vision the ball crosses over the top of the post. What a crock, they don’t have a camera up there, there’s no way you could tell definitively anything from the vision.

Imagine if we were playing that game, it’s absolute crap.

Correct and Richmond can suffer for it but that’s gotta be the second worst review of the year.
