Or a owner willing to invest a great amount

Since Wenger left in 2018:

Leno 22.5m
Sokratis 14.4m
Torreira 27m
Guendouzi 8m
Martinelli 6m
Saliba 27m
Pepe 72m
Tierney 25m
Luiz 8m
Gabriel 23m
Pablo Mari 7.2m
Partey 45m

That's over 300 mil in just over 2 years, which for a club that has not been in the champions league during that time is a lot of money. That's also not including the mammoth new contract of Aubameyang or the mental deal that they gave Willian.

They have spent a lot of money, just on the wrong players.

Difference is they don't have the quality.
And they're not likely to attract much either in the near future. Pre-season, they were being linked to Szoboszlai and, now, the "big fish" they're targeting is Emi Buendia. Not a bad player mind you but it goes to show how far they've fallen when their key target is someone who stars in the Championship.

Our issue as well is selling. Out of those players in that list only Martinelli, Guendouzi, Tierny, Leno and early stages Gabriel look like recouping or making that profit on the spend. The wasted on money on the likes of Luiz, Sokratis is infuriating.

The next 2 games against City in the cup and Chelsea won't decide Arteta's future.

The run in the league after is what I think will decide where Arteta goes:

Brighton (A)
West Brom (A)
Crystal Palace (H)
Newcastle (H)

We need to some how snag at least 3 wins from that run. If we come away with 1 win, or even worse 0 wins. Even the club won't be able to defend Arteta's position.

If he hasn't won 1 after the West Brom game there will be a new manager before the game against Palace

Correct. Whilst I don’t want to defend the Kroenke’s entirely, they have made considerable investments into the transfers in recent years. We’ve been spending. Not necessarily very well though.

In addition, we’ve also completely ****ed up in terms of contract management. Players leaving on a free for example, sure it happens from time to time. However it’s an on going issue at Arsenal that goes beyond just a coincidence.

Ramsey for example. And next up will be Mustafi (who we should’ve sold a few years ago with Xhaka). And then of course Ozil. So much money left on the table, that’s a hundred million or so collectively give or take. They still would’ve carried some value in the transfer market but Arsenal have failed to do what’s needed.

Refusing to sell Alexis to City for £60m is a prime example. And then panicking a few months later in the January window for a straight swap with Mhkitaryan.

And despite being out of the CL for a while now, we still carry a bloated squad with huge wages on a Europa League budget. Somehow we even have so many centre halves (8) that we cannot even fit a large recent acquisition (Saliba) into the registered squad.

It’s calamitous stuff, the list goes on and on.

They have enough quality to stay up, but just imagine if Arsenal do get relegated, what a story that would be.

If they did go down, does everyone think they’ll come straight back up to the PL the following season or be stranded in the championship for a bit?

Bolded are players that as it stands, I believe have the ability/potential to stay at a Champions League club long-term. As you implied, the ineptitude doesn’t lie solely on our transfer spend post-Emirates austerity.

The situation is caused by countless instances of s**t decision making, dating back possibly to the day David Dein sold his shares.

If you’ve the spare time and are interested in some in-depth schadenfreude, Le Grove is your guy. As fans we’ll never know the ins and outs of the systemic shithousery to a T, though his analysis on the matter is in my opinion, the best around.

Some of those are good buys but they spent too much on and can't get them all on the pitch. Then they've gone with a manager who can't get the most out of said players. I think they'd be better with a Rodgers/Mourinho manager than a Pep style one in Arteta.

The thing is about Arsenal is they always try to walk the ball into the goal.
