I am sick of these morons, Victoria is in high fire alert & what happens? Two waste of space morons start fires in vulnerable areas, the Sherbrooke Forest one was the more dangerous.

These people should be jailed for attempted murder, or if their fires cause death then murder & given long jail sentences.

I wonder if these people have lived in an area where their homes & lives were threatened by bushfires? I'm guessing not, the moron who tried to set fire to Sherbrooke Forest lives in St Kilda.

Would serve them right if they were tied to a tree and left to be consumed by their bushfire.

Ok, we can't condone that but these people are total tools. Deserve extreme punishment.

So Mantis, does this mean you think refuge seeking boat people should be thrown in jail if they light a camp fire?
lolwut?

Anyway back on topic, the ones that are caught need to be made an example of. Disgusting thing to do.

Absolutely, fire is a massive threat to human and fauna life in summer, not to mention flora, property and other infrastructure.

These firebugs obviously have issues.

If you see anyone suspicious call the police.

I was actually a passenger in a car driving on the Monash near Narre Warren last Friday and someone had lit a grassfire alongside which I duly called 000. If in doubt whether someone has called, do it yourself. Better to get multiple calls than none for an earlier response.

My ex-wife is in the CFA. She once told me that her and her mother used to follow fire trucks to watch house fires. Do you think I should tell someone?

If someone starts a fire in a bush area they aren't doing it for kicks, they know people & property are at risk.

Still not attempted murder. Intent to kill has to be proven, and in the case of lighting a bushfire, that is impossible, since the vast majority of bushfires do not claim lives.

Jail them for 2 years minimum, then EVERY summer for the next 5-10 years.

And I'd be happy to pay the extra tax just to keep them locked up. It's time to send a clear message.

Me too, I have lived through Ash Wednesday. Until you actually go through the experience, you have no understanding how scary it is.

WTF is wrong with people?

Maybe a better idea would be to increase the penalties for arson, so they match attempted murder?

Why this, or something similar, has not been done in Australia, and especially in the most fire prone states like Victoria and SA, is beyond me. Deliberately lighting a fire in hot, dry weather should carry a severe sentence, not a slap on the wrist.

Really? I thought you died - or maybe just your brain. I lived through Ash Wednesday too as did most Victorians. Not many experienced it though.

Nice selective editing.

A lot of people experienced it, like last years fires.

^^ Are you saying that she is lying? I hardly see what semantics have to do with anything, her meaning was clear, she claims to have experienced the Ash Wednesday fires, and if she lived in th general vicinity of where she lives know then there is no reason to doubt that. It think you're nly one misinterpreting stuff here.
