19 - GWS maybe, genuinely didn't give a * last year

2020 in order - Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Richmond

Would even happily support Hawthorn against Collingwood.
Really?.....I’m the polar opposite to that in that I don’t have much of a dislike at all for the Pies, whereas the Hawks are & always will be public enemy number#1.....On the topic, I simply barrack for the underdog every year ( unless that’s Hawthorn).

I would be happy if Collingwood never won another game of football for the rest of my life. But we all have different opinions :)

Basically boils down to which team I have the more recent or more severe grievance against.

2019: Not Richmond, because 2017.
2018: WCE, because not Victorian
2017: ...
2016: Not Sydney, because Tippett.
2015: Not Hawthorn, because 2012 Prelim.
2014: Nil all draw, because Tippett and 2012 Prelim.
2013: Not Hawthorn, because 2012 Prelim.
2012: Not Hawthorn, because 2012 Prelim.
2011: Not Collingwood, because 2009 Semi.
2010: St Kilda, because 1 premiership since 1897 is depressing.
2009: St Kilda, because 1 premiership since 1897 is depressing.
2008: Not Hawthorn, because 2007 Elim.
2007: Not Port, because Port.
2006: Not WCE, because of the preceding Prelim.
2005: Not WCE, because of the preceding Prelim.
2004: Not Port, because Port.

Was nice seeing Tippett play in those losing GF's. Got exactly what he deserved. For me, no big deal if Dangerfield or Cameron win premierships.

I started watching in 2007.

2016 - Western Bulldogs vs Sydney
2017 - Richmond vs Adelaide (this one pains me to say, but up until here, I always had a soft spot for Richmond as my uncle who I was close with supported them. I wanted to see them break a draught. After seeing how their fans are after this, I wish it never had happened)
2018 - West Coast vs Collingwood (was not a neutral)
2019 - Richmond vs GWS

Usually dependent on who my mates support and which ones are more tolerable with a premiership.

2007 - Geelong
2008 - Hawthorn
2009 - Geelong
2010 - St Kilda, but it was the best of two evils
2011 - Geelong
2012 - Hawthorn, had a family friend with a terminal illness who was a Hawks supporter
2013 - Freo
2014 - Hawthorn, but the more because I didn't want Sydney to win
2015 - West Coast
2016 -
2017 - Richmond, but retrospectively HOLY s**t would I have preferred an Adelaide win
2018 - Collingwood initially, but after they went 5 goals up I remembered I had too many insufferable Collingwood mates
2019 - GWS even though I hate their guts. Couldn't deal with the Tiger Army all over again

The only one I've cared about this century was 2018 because it was on my gravely-ill Eagles fan neighbour's 97th birthday and I wanted them to win so his family could enjoy it with him.

Other than that, I've probably only watched seven or eight of the GFs since North Melbourne last played in one. And can't see myself watching much of it this year.

2003 - Fine either way
2004 - Lions

2009-2019 was a fairly rough trot but '12 and '18 made up for it, classic thriller wins from clubs I love. From 2013 on the contests have mostly been letdowns, as were 1995-2001 for the most part.

1975 - North (their first)
1976 - can’t remember
1977 - North
1978 - can’t remember
1979 - probably Carlton
1980 - not neutral
1981 - probably Carlton
1982 - not neutral
1983 - Essendon (sick of same 4 winning Premierships since 1967)
1984 - Essendon
1985 - Essendon
1986 - Hawthorn (was at their GF breakfast then traveled with their supporters. Only Grand Final I attended).
1987 - didn’t care
1988 - Melbourne
1989 - Geelong
1990 - Collingwood
1991 - West Coast

2004 - Brisbane
2005 - Sydney
2006 - Sydney
2007 - Geelong
2008 - Geelong
2009 - St.Kilda
2010 - strange one, first St.Kilda but then thought of Lou Richards and wanted him to see Collingwood win another before his time was up. RIP
2011- Geelong
2012 - Sydney
2013 - Fremantle
2014 - Sydney
2015 - Hawthorn (I gave up hating them)
2016 - Footscray
2017 - not neutral
2018 - West Coast
2019-2020 - not neutral

1996 Sydney (fan of Lockett - wanted to see him win one)
1997 Adelaide (because they did it the hard way losing a final and came from a long way back during the season - and probably for Blight - after losing 3 at Geelong - and I could just blank out those idiotic interruptions during the broadcast from partisan boundary rider "Knuckles" Kerley )
1998 Adelaide (North seemed too confident that year - and by comparison Adelaide seemed humble (I imagine that wasn't the case in SA) I had enjoyed Adelaide's previous GF win and their stars: Jarman/McLeod)
1999 - (expected a flogging- futile to pick Carlton)
2000 Melbourne (underdogs)
2001 Essendon (because I watched it with my Mum who was supporting Ess)
2002 Brisbane (i kind of like Bucks now, but back then I liked irony that he would lose a GF to the club that he had left after 1 season because he wanted to play for a big successful Melbourne based club)
2003 Brisbane (same as previous year - crush Collingwood and ruin Buckley's dream and kill off the farce that was the previous year's Norm Smith)
2004 Port Adelaide (talked up my Port tip to a few workmates during the lead up and wanted to be Monday's expert)
2005 Sydney (vs Eagles - most despised rivals)
2006 Sydney (vs Eagles - I fart in your general direction)
2007 - (both teams came from outside the 8 prev year - no preference)
2008 Hawthorn (had some young exciting players from WA - Franklin, Williams, Bateman )
2009 Geelong (too much of an outpouring of mushy sentimentality for St Kilda to break their drought really turned me off)
2010 Collingwood & Collingwood (a St Kilda supporting neighbor was giving me the irits that year, so any grief that came his way gave me succor)
2011 Geelong (too much sentiment for Mick's supposed coaching farewell - Geelong earned my admiration by winning a lot of close ones that year)
2012 Sydney (Goodes, Bolton - great fellas - easy to barrack for)
2013 Fremantle
2014 Sydney (just a good consistent team that I seemed to dislike a lot less than the others)
2015 Hawthorn (vs Eagles, you tossers)
2016 Sydney (again, though there's no such thing 2nd team to barrack for - it was to be the last year I had this weak sentiment for the Swans)
2017 - (really didn't want to go for either team - against general expectations I had picked Richmond to play finals that year, but by the time they started winning them, I knew it had gone too far, but couldn't bring myself to go for Adelaide either - with one of our own annoying supporters on our Freo BF pages giving constant detailed comparisons of how Adelaide's drafting and trading had been far superior to Fremantles over the decade - where are you now, you clown!)
2018 Collingwood (Eagles suck)
2019 GWS (general like for GWS players to have GF success and when they're on song its great to watch their brand, also because of they way they toughed it out through the prelim to get there)
2020 Geelong

1995 - Geelong (living close to Geelong, Ablett had the best haircut and liked going for an underdog, even when a lot of people around me firmly believed in Geelong)

...

2005 - pretty neutral (didn't mind the Eagles that much after just starting to follow the game again)
2006 - as above, probably even Eagles since Sydney beat us the week before
2007 - Geelong
2008 - Geelong
2009 - Geelong
2010 - Collingwood (have a soft spot for them and like the idea to go for the team everybody hates)
2011 - Collingwood (actually Geelong got a bit too successful and we started having a history with them)
2012 - Sydney (never much into Hawks)
2013 - -
2014 - Sydney (even more after 2013, evne when I liked Sydney less then in 2012 somehow)
2015 - Hawthorn (not so neutral on Eagles anymore)
2016 - Bulldogs (my favourite neutral Premiership somehow and it gave Pav a win against the premiers in his final game)
2017 - Adelaide (but not by much, probably pretty neutral overall, only didn't like the idea of another team ending their drought since 1995)
2018 - Collingwood (as from above + Mayne)
2019 - GWS (Deboer)

Actually pretty funny/interesting to think about this. Some very strange decisions evne when tehy are ma de by myself.

PS Actually only lived in Australia in 1995. And started following the game again in 2005.

I don't much have strong preferances either way when the Eagles are not involved .I like to dislike every other team and enjoy the losers pain. But some teams I dislike more than others.

1990 - Essendon (grandfather who passed away earlier in the year was a mad 1 eyed Essendon supporter, also sister was an Essendon supporter fml)
1991 -
1992 West Coast
1993 - Essendon (Hated the blues at the time, which was stronger than sibling rivalry!)
1994 - West Coast ( felt like the underdogs)
1995 - Geelong (Still hated Carlton) The commentary from Roy and HG was excellent as well, as they kept praising the chubby one from Geelong, as he seemed like the only Cats player that showed up.
1996 - Sydney (someone from my childhood had passed away who was a 1 eyed South Melbourne supporter)
1997 - just didn’t want to be home with a St.Kilda supporting father and an Adelaide crows supporting mother. Just wanted the pain and misery to end.
1998 - Adelaide (Was sick and tired of the commentators mentioning Wayne Carey every 3 seconds)
1999 - North Melbourne ( Carlton hatred still strong)
2000 - Essendon (Knew they were too good for Melbourne)
2001 - Brisbane (Hatred of Essendon started to begin after the blatant cheating from the umpires in the PF
2002 - Brisbane (Footy Show had put me off, so couldn’t stand Eddie
2003 - Brisbane (As above)
2004 - Brisbane (Port just irked me)
2005 - Sydney (Long drought, dislike of west coast)
2006 - Sydney still disliked West Coast
2007 - Geelong (long drought, although the thought of them chocking in another grand final did appeal to my sense of humour)
2008 -
2009 - St.Kilda (The Start of the Kennett curse)
2010 - Collingwood (every time I rang him, it was always about St.Kilda, during the summer months, I didn’t want to hear about St.Kilda, so knew that if they lost, he would then start talking about the cricket)
2011 - Collingwood The middle of the Kennett curse)
2012 - 2015 -
2016 - The Bulldogs (fairytale ending and that other crap)
2017 - Adelaide (The Richmond arrogance and ignorance had only just begun)
2018 - West Coast (Nothing better than seeing Collingwood lose and the camera pans for Eddies reaction
2019 - pretty neutral if any team probably GWS due to the Richmond factor.
2020 - Brisbane. Port stuffed up last night by not getting rid of Richmond. So Brisbane for most neutral supporters your our only hope to end the misery of Geelong and Richmond. Just saying no pressure
