Wayne walked into the wrong bathroom at a party.

I was about to make a joke about Daniel Wells' back door, then I realised we picked Wells with the pick we got for Carey. Full circle baby!

You and I must be of similar vintage R.T.B, as the first Grannnie i recall listening to on the radio was also the 1976 one. So from the same years as you, here goes.

1976- North (maybe because they were blue and white like Geelong)
1977- Collingwood because Dad was a Pies fan
1978- Hawthorn (by then i disliked North more)
1979- Collingwood
1980- Richmond (hated the Pies beating Geelong in the PF)
1981- Carlton (Ditto)
1982- Richmond (Blues already won Flags, too young to recall '74)
1983- Essendon (Hated the Hawks by then)
1984- Essendon (Long drought)
1985- Essendon (By then, they were a great side to watch)
1986- Carlton (Just didn't like the Hawks)
1987- Ambivalent (but hated Hawks kicking us out of the Finals with the last round win at KP)
1988- Melbourne (long drought, redemption for their unlucky PF loss previous year)
1989-
1990- Essendon (i just preferred them over the Pies, plus my bro was a mad Pies fan)
1991- West Coast (Seen enough Hawks Flags by then)
1992-
1993- Essendon (Still felt whoever did win, the Cats would have won it all had they got in, but disliked Carlton more)
1994-
1995-
1996- Sydney (long drought)
1997- St.Kilda (long drought)
1998- North (Didn't like Crows after '97 Finals stitch-up against Cats)
1999- North (Best side scenario)
2000- Melbourne (Underdogs, but knew that was a stretch, Bombers dominant)
2001- Brisbane (Long drought for the Lions as colours)
2002- Brisbane (didn't like Pies much)
2003- Brisbane (Ditto and first 3-peat of my lifetime)
2004- Brisbane (a 4-peat would have been just something worth seeing)
2005- Sydney (Although Nick Davis...Eagles Flag wins over Geelong made me firmly hate them)
2006- Sydney (Ditto)
2007-
2008-
2009-
2010- St.Kilda (long drought and they deserved a Flag for their two great seasons)
2011-
2012- Sydney (Still didn't like Hawks)
2013- Hawthorn (Dirty on Freo, Lyon and the world in general for Geelong's home QF disaster that enabled them to make the GF)
2014- Sydney (Ditto 2012)
2015- Hawks (Probably disliked eagles more, plus again, a 3-peat did show they were a great side.
2016- Footscray (Long drought)
2017- Crows (Didn't like the Tigers after killing Geelong in the QF, and wondered what happened to our former bunnies by then)
2018- Collingwood (Hatred of Eagles > Hatred of Pies)
2019- GWS (First flag hopes but any hope was short lived)
2020-

Probably as a general rule i like an underdog but i also enjoy seeing a dominant side who plays imperious footy to show their full skills.

2004 was the earliest I remember going for one of the Grand Final teams so:

2004: Port Adelaide
2005: West Coast
2006: Sydney
2007: I literally don’t remember lol
2008: Hawthorn
2009: Geelong (I think)
2010: St Kilda
2011: Geelong
2012: Sydney
2013: Fremantle
2014: Sydney
2015: West Coast
2016: Sydney
2017: (Richmond)
2018: West Coast
2019: (Richmond)
2020: (Richmond)

Clearly I tend to go for the non-Victorian side over the Victorian sides except when Richmond are playing lol. I think it would have been different this year though. If it wasn’t an all-Victorian Grand Final, then I think I would have supported the Victorian side (maybe even Collingwood, but probably in limited circumstances)

I see some in here went for Sydney in 2016? Are they just trolls? I get once a team wins one then you might not want them to win one in a while. But you would have to have a blackened heart not to want a team who hadn’t even been in the Grand Final for 55 years to no win one? Has big Footy become like Twitter?

I didn't support St.Kilda in any of their GF's either. There are reasons for that but both St.Kilda and Footscray on one premiership has been a constant in my footy framework all my life. They belong(ed) on one flag. OK it might not make much sense, but most years my reasons are trivial and I don't get bent out of shape if it goes the other way. It might even come down to whose house I'm watching at (e.g. Collingwood in 2011). I cheered Brisbane home in 2002 at a Collingwood supporter's house and was never invited back. Probably not the right thing to do but there's no way known I'd be having neutrals over to my place to watch a Richmond GF.

Since then I've acknowledged the Bulldogs' tremendous effort, have never disparaged them as "ordinary premiers" and have generally posted positively about them in the past couple of years. Don't take it personally.

Maybe some people just like Sydney more than the Bulldogs like me.

I've had a soft spot for the Swans since Tony Lockett went there and have barracked for them in every GF they have played in, the one against North in 1996, the two against West Coast in 2005 and 2006, the two against the Hawks in 2012 and 2014 and the one against the Bulldogs in 2016.

On top of that I don't like the way the Bulldogs teams under Beveridge play for free kicks and the favouritism they have got from the umpires, particularly in 2016, and that made it hard to support them. I don't think I'm alone in that regard either.

Exactly. Some people just like one team over the other. Maybe some people just like Collingwood more than the Saints like me.

I'm not surprised Bulldogs fans don't like us, you've been our finals bitches, we beat you in prelims in 2009/2010 and then again in our elimination final this year.

It's a pity you choked in that 1997 prelim against Adelaide and didn't make the GF as we would have won our 2nd premiership before you.

I like the rivalry our clubs have built up over the last decade or so though, it adds some spice to our games.

Don't care won a flag, Saints haven't. That's all that matters.

(We would've beaten you in 97 if we didn't choke against the Crows)
