Found this little gem in the Herald-Sun this morning (no link but in the hard copy):
I'm not sure how the very organisation we task with anti-doping can be so underfunded. how are they supposed to do their job effectively, given the level of funding?
$50m cut to affect ASADA. (Bridget Davies)
More than $50 million will be cut from sport and recreation over the next 3 years.
This year will see $349 million spent on sport but by 2018-19 that will drop to $298 million.
High performance sports are expected to be big winners with this year;s Rio Olympics on the horizon and the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games around the corner.
The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority will received $1.5 million over the next 3 years (underfunded much?) to step up its testing of Australian and international athletes before the Commonwealth Games.
More than $12.3 million will be spent on the running of Asada in 2016-17 - $600000 less than 2015-16.
The drop in sport funding is due to the cancellation of the Sporting Schools Initiative, which will finish on June 30 next year, and savings at the Australian Sports Commission and Asada.
