ASADA "stitch-up" over Essendon PED scandal

Hey I wonder if Essendon dropping all this drug scandal stuff today has anything to do with the fact that they're about to trade a generational key forward father/son for massive unders coz he's walking out on them after they stuffed his injury rehab by playing him unfit?

I still find the wording interesting.
That rule is in place for athlete safety/health concerns more so than performance enhancing effects, though I’m not sure that a substance which is approved for human use in some random country should automatically be considered safe for human use lol.
This isn't about being safe to use. If it is approved for human therapeutic use in any country then it isn't automatically prohibited, but that doesn't go to say that it is allowed to be used by athletes. This is when they would need to call the ASADA helpline, or look on line and ask the question about the specific substance, and get a docket with the response. If it isn't approved for human therapeutic use anywhere in the world, it is straight out prohibited.

A selection of Quotes from the CAS Finding back in the day...
no Player made any enquiry of the nature or properties of the substance with which he was being injected, although all had signed a consent form for injection with 'Thymosin'. All appeared to have relied upon the assurance of Mr. Dank and Mr. Robinson that they could use the substance without being in breach of AFL anti-doping rules or the WADC.

As to the second, no Player tested during the 2012 season revealed on his doping control form that he was in receipt of Thymosin injections.

Furthermore, the Players accepted that they used to have a couple of supplements before a game and that the pill box provided by Mr. Dank was part of the program. Nonetheless few, if any, provided that information on the DCF.

the vast majority of players signed 'patient information/informed consent* forms in which they consented to the administration of four substances including AOD-9604 and 'Thymosin' by way of injections.

So, they all signed forms saying they were getting injections of a substance. Never enquired about that substance, never declared it. Yet it's a stich up?

When these sorts of people suit up in other countries colors Mac Horton is cheered for calling them out as drug cheats.

Questions do need to be asked about the competence of ASADA if as has been reported WADA had it listed as a banned substance in 2010 and ASADA didn't follow suit until 2012 (after the PEDs fiasco blew up). That would be a remarkable screw up.

If you actually read it correctly, the list that ASADA had wasnt comprehensive and TOLD YOU to CONTACT WADA if you COULD NOT FIND the substance you wanted to ram into your players. They AMENDED the list to include the substance MONTHS before Essendon self reported, and YEARS after WADA said it was illegal to use for sport enhancement.

Clutch at another defense, Essendon.

As a group, the players were assured in every way by the club that it was all above board.

It’s not hard to figure out.

The whole situation was one big disinformation cluster####.

And the players ended up with the blame. Which is wrong imo.
It's quite clear that every player is ultimately responsible for what they consume. Whether the club told them to or not is irrelevant. Sad and arguably unfair but irrelevant. You are what you eat. You are what you let into your body. If you don't know what it is you have to check. It's your responsibility to not just assume or take someone else's word for it. Therefore the players are responsible and the Club is responsible for being complicit. A hard lesson for the players. They both got their whack. It must be terribly disappointing for the players to still be uncertain what was put into them. One day I guess we will know the full story of Bomber Thompson and Geelong and if the trail leads back there when all the doping began. Bomber got on the gear somewhere, did he then get James on it (weren't they supplements to keep you looking good in your 40s and 50s?) It's a sad, sad story.

The whole saga is disappointing beyond belief and reiterates why it is so important for athletes to be educated in legal matters and the laws and regulations of their respective sport and governing body.

Like this didn’t happen.

Every player inducted into the league gets a rundown of their requirements within the drug code and ASADA’s involvement regarding declaration and testing.

So "scientist" Bob O'Dea as quoted in the article seems to be a 25 year member of Essendon who has made multiple FOI requests all related to the drug saga.

You can watch him in his Essendon jumper here giving an unbiased account of the"science of the drug saga" at the "Justice for the 34 synopsium"

Does he know the kayaker and Francis?

Yep, just another crusader - fairly sure he fed the story to the Hun. My ears pricked up at a random 'scientist' being quoted, although his science has no relevance what he is talking about which is an admin matter, that he is also wrong about but hey, it's the vibe.

If New Zealand actually have 30 cent pieces that should be the main news story as it's an absolute travesty.

How else are you meant to get change for an eight dollar note?
