I don't think we can

Even with all our injuries we were hesitant to pick him and even when we did give him that lifeline against the Dogs(?) he did absolutely zero.

It's quite possible he's content being an ok VFL player and isn't interested in the discipline and sacrifices required to be an AFL player.
Yes, it was the Dogs. I was at that game and was keen to see AJ's running patterns and positioning live (off camera work). Apart from one kick which hit its target he did SFA. His effort - or lack thereof - was appalling. I wanted so much for him to develop into the talent he obviously has but he clearly does not have the willingness to do what is required.
I feel his time has been and gone. Waste.

Agree with this. First seen Ash in a VFL game against Cats and I thought at time this kids got so much talent and if he applies himself, has the makings of a really good AFL footballer. So yeah, he's become such a laconic waste of talent, imagine if he had the dedication, application and 'heart' of a Brody Mihocek, the guy would never get dropped from playing AFL.

Listening briefly to Jesse Hogan on a podcast talking about change in discipline and attitude.
Can we forward this on to Ash?
Is there one more ounce of ability that we could possibly extract or is it a forgone conclusion?
Geez I’d love to think the former.
We have had a couple of snippets.
There is still def a spot in our side for his key assets, that’s the annoying part.

Ash to GWS it is. We tried and failed. Second rounder would do the trick

Would struggle to get a late 3rd.
Thou Ash could still bob up and kick 3.
His best to worst is confounding.
It's because he does some good things with the first attempt, but he just reacts so slowly after it - I think it's more than just effort - takes him ages to work out what to do next.

Is Ash better than Jacob Kositchke who went from Dawks to Tigers?
Kositchke played 12 games in the year prior to being traded for pick 49. Ash is 3 years older and was clearly overlooked this year when we were desperate for a tall forward. I think that this one's done.

That doesn't answer my question.

It just says in a year where Hawthorn was poor, he played 12 games. Were those 12 games any good?

How many games would Jacob played at Collingwood that year?

In that case, the answer to your question is No.

What has Jacob done better than Ash?

Jacob has been in 2 poor performing teams and still struggled to get a game.
Given the time of year, I'm guessing that your question about whether Ash is better than Jacob is to assess Johnson's trade value to a somewhat comparable trade last year.

Taking away the Collingwood bias, what should a club pay for a 27 year old, MSD pick that has played a handful of good games over a year ago; who was so bad that not only did he not get recalled into an AFL side that desperately needed his skillset, but the VFL team had to move him to defence?

To give greater context, North just traded pick 63 for Darling who played 21 games and kicked 22 goals this year.

I may be in the absolute minority here, but I am happy to back AJ in for one more season.

He was borderline uncompetitive this year, and that arrogant incident in the VFL where he showed the ball to the opponent only to fumble the bounce and get chased down, pretty much summed up his season.

But the glimpses he showed in 2022 tell me there is some serious talent there. And he reportedly had an excellent preseason this year and got really fit.

I'm not sure why he fell off so far or if he has a future in the AFL. But, I am not writing him off just yet.

massive and vile vitriol against him on social media ultimately needing him to delete his account, had a huge impact on his confidence.

Selecting Johnson when he was down on form/confidence in the first few rounds wasn’t smart, but that wasn’t Johnson’s fault. Hopefully the club has talked through the delisting, because there’s a risk it could also impact his confidence.

How about AJ works his ass off like any other aspiring footballer and proves us all wrong. Being put on the rookie list should inspire him to do better. I don't think it's confidence, I just don't think he wants it enough

I used to play squash against a fat prick with shit shots who used to kick my arse. AJ reminds me of that.

The fat prick would just own the T because he'd always be following up his shots and moving to the right spots to control the court, whereas, I'd hit my shot and watch it before moving and I'd gradually get forced into worse and worse position. For me, it wasn't effort, it was just not being a smart enough player who processed quickly enough.

AJ is one shot and done. Sometimes it's a doozy, but when it isn't, he just lands and watches before reacting and following his first shot.

I’d love you to be right. No one doubts his talent and maybe this little kick up the arse might give him some motivation. Who knows

I don’t think Johnson was set up up to succeed last season, but at some point you’ve just got to fight through that and still offer something.
