Fickle and better off not posting such critical stuff about a player who's played < 10 games?
I’m disappointed you didn’t praise my clever use of alliteration 😢

What? Played at least 50. Whatever, anybody can walk off the street and be a key marking target in a 90,000 strong crowd. :p

He is a work in progress. I wonder how much his head is impacting his performance, he really looked unsure at times. He presents well and is dangerous in the air. Ash strikes me as, ideally, that dangerous third tall forward. Wasn't his best game, he wasn't alone in that but plenty to work with.

This is the Ash Johnson thread - you're telling me Ash Johnson has played 50 AFL games?

If he kicked straight he would have had 3 goals and we wouldn't be having this convo, he's fine
He's been able to paint over the little cracks in his game with his good finishing but when he failed to hit the scoreboard it made his lack of defensive efforts and poor decision making stand out. He still set up a goal or two. I just think he has to contribute more when he doesn't have the ball. That was the very reason Henry was dropped. It may be an illusion but there are times when he appears to be jogging after an opponent who is running off him.

Unless you’re Tom Hawkins every forward is bound to have days like that sadly. Unfortunate it was in a semi and hopefully won’t be a common occurrence.

Unfortunately he is a front runner he was poor last night needs to offer more in the chasing and tackling department.

Rough rough call. Has kicked some big moment goals this year. Definitely not a front runner.

I’d put it down to experience in games and time in the system. Will be stronger next year

I was disappointed in his first three quarters last night. But thought he came good.

People quickly forget our forward line is pretty flexible and well spread. Ginni checkers Johnson Elliot all work well together.

He will still so dangerous last night. He will learn from it and I trust in the coaching staff to work on his weaker areas plus trust ash will improve.

No change next week. This guys capable of tearing a game apart in a quarter.

Thought there was a degree of sarcasm - but around these parts it's hard to tell sometimes - all good 👍
Yeah, I should refrain from that sort of behaviour. I blame markfs for instilling this approach to the moshpit of collingwood bf.

I just feel quite a few of our young players are viewed through a harsh lens that fails to recognise the potential to develop. The talent that oozes from Ash, physical and in terms of footy skills, is something you can't be taught. Teaching him to chase and work hard off the ball can be taught, will come with 50 games. Where he comes from blokes sit down when the ball isn't near them.

Actually, you can argue the opposite. He’s stood up in big moments but “went missing” last night when we were front running.

The guy is in his first few games of AFL football. Expectations are ridiculously high - only because he’s done so well thus far. He’ll be fine.

usually has hands made of glue but I'm hoping he bounces back from last night and puts everything into next week as that's when we will need him to be damaging.

This in a nutshell, the breaks didn’t necessarily go his way for the first 3 qtrs, though he played his role well in the last qtr. He’s naturally laconic, so the urgency isn’t always evident.
You can just sense he’s gonna have a breakout game at some point, hopefully next week or two.

This appears to be the accepted narrative but I think it has more with Johnson offering a better aerial contest than his pressure. Johnson still averaging more tackles than Henry though.
