Smithy, not undeserved but bowlers get so underrated in match awards.

Would almost guarantee that Root will be player of the series now. (Cue Broad or something to make look like a fool though)

Normally I agree but the batsmen made 480 odd that's where the match was won.

Ah, so there's two man of the series, an Aussie and an English one.

Well deserved Buck. A nice bit of icing on the cake of a good career.

Generally Ashes series are flops though. 2009 was the last genuinely competitive series.

Thats actually an interesting question. When was the last Ashes test that was a genuinely close match? I can only think of Cardiff 09 and that was only close in the sense that rain saved England from a hammering.

1st Test (England won by 14 runs) and 4th Test (England won by 74 runs) of the 2013 Ashes in England were both pretty even and close.

I simply cannot understand how we lost this series.

This England team is so so so average with the exception of Root and Broad.

Christ, so disappointing.

Anderson is elite too, and Cook's record is A grade

Wrong personnel for majority of the series. Sooner or later the overstock of baggy greens at the Albion factory will diminish and they will be given to people who actually deserve it

Anderson is overrated, the last series in Aus showed that. Broad is a mile ahead of him in my eyes.

Different bowlers. In England I rate Anderson more but overall I agree. Give Anderson a greenish pitch and he will get more wickets

Yeah, Anderson is quality in home conditions i'll give you that

Cook has never scored a home ashes ton.

His centuries against Australia were when our attack featured Ben Hilfenhaus and Xavier Doherty.

He's not very good against the baggy green. But i do think he's a solid player.

He is a good bowler and uses the swing from the new cheery well. Seems like all I hear from the Australian commentators is "reverse swing" that's why Anderson and Broad are England's best bowlers, they use the new ball swing to our advantage, where as we have blokes that charge in trying to take people's heads off because he got lucky and did it for one series with a mustache

Xavier Doherty, is that the bloke who didn't try and save a four when it was 5 meters from him and just shrugged his his shoulders and said "cmon punter Tassie repRazent!
