The difference between Rogers 80 odd and Marsh's 114 wouldn't be enough for Marsh to displace Rogers.
Is there any difference at all between an 80 and 114 in the context of a warm up game? Just shows to me both are in decent knick.

For mine, and hopefully the selectors, Rogers had/ has to fail in every warm up innings and Marsh has to set the world on fire before Rogers' place in the side is even brought into question. And even then you still pick Rogers nine times out of ten.

He's on his last chance with me. Must make runs.

I'll give you 100-1 of that happening...Watson making runs when the pressure is on...yeah okay lol

You would pick Rogers 10 times out of 10. Gun to say the least and in English conditions. He is playing.

Yeah i know.
I would have lost patience with him after the Summer just gone. Surely he can't last much longer.

If Watson flops in the tour match(es), is playing Shaun Marsh as the extra batsman a realistic option?

Rogers, Warner, Marsh, Smith, Clarke, Voges.....with Voges as your "fifth bowler"?
I think something like that is more than possible tbh, and it makes a bit of sense with our ability to rotate and keep our bowlers fresh throughout the series. I'd still lean to Mitch Marsh replacing Watson but if Shaun keeps making runs he's up to his neck in it

I lost patience 4 years ago. Talented yes, but sooner or later you have to produce..and what is it about 3 or 4 test tons for a top 6 bat? Marcus North was chucked in the bin with a better test record.

In the past 4 and a half years he's scored two centuries. And essentially all of that time he's been top three. It says a lot about the quality, or lack thereof, of state batsmen in that period. Now we have players doing decently outside of the team it's looking like his days are numbered.

I had little problem with him playing in the interim but can we please not keep playing a bloke who averages 30 at best...and that is our top 6 bat...you would swear he was batting 8 or 9 with his recent stats!

That was my view as well.

They just wanted another option in case he didn't regain form after his concussion.

It's fairly obvious that the selectors don't view Watson as long term option.

Until this point they do think that he's possibly a better option just for the Ashes than Mitch Marsh but they're clearly giving Mitch an opportunity to overtake Watson in the tour matches.

And after the Ashes Watson is getting moved on regardless.

Watson is on a hiding to nothing now. The Aussies are so far ahead of the game, it doesn't really matter what he does. And it's a flat pitch, even the Kent comms were saying that.

He will find a way to still not get a ton lol

Great to see Shaun putting his hand up for a spot. :thumbsu:

Given the opposition though it really shouldn't see him leapfrogging anybody, besides Watson, but I think we really want that 4th seamer at 6.

You're getting a couple of games against the worst Division 2 teams on flat decks and they are fielding under strength teams.

Yes, well, all that you've said is a given. It wouldn't do any of them any good to **** up here.

And there goes Smithy. Ha, ha. Watson might run Mitch out.
