Ashes 2017 Series Predictions

Marsh will either make or break the Aussies

You can't say that about any batsman, not even a properly senior player like Smith or Warner and let's face it, if one of them fail, that's a bloody big deal compared to the number six who was fighting it out with any other number of inconsistent players for the spot.

I actually think Bancroft could be thrown out pretty quickly if things don’t go right. He averaged 28 last summer and as good as he’s been this summer he’s only played three good innings with the whites on to prove himself worthy and was no where near the test team a few weeks ago for a reason. Form is temporary - class in permanent and I’m not sure he has enough class to last in the test side. Facing Anderson and Broad with the new ball will be tough compared to coming in at six anywhere between 30 and 100+ overs into an innings outside of perhaps late in the day under lights in Adelaide.
Bancroft has class; last season was the exception not the rule, not vice versa. Theres a reason he made the Test squad in 2015 at 23.

I reckon it will be a lot closer than the pundits are predicting. England having a real under the radar buildup with any of the usual huff and puff directed at a bloke who isn't even in the country.

Also we are just not that good at present.

Paine will be a success with the gloves but will make no more or less runs than Nevill/Wade with the bat.

Shaun Marsh will make 3 scores under 10 in the first two tests.

Bancroft like Renshaw last year will look like he has a real future but won't explode onto the scene and score 50s and 100s from the get go.

Your second option may very well be true (though I hope not) but I predict he will make more than 75 in the fourth.

Series result: Australia 4-1
Top Australia batsman: Usman Khawaja
Top England batsmen: Moen Ali
Top Australia bowler: Mitchell Starc
Top England bowler: Stuart Broad
First Australian dropped*: Marsh
First Englishman dropped*: Ball/Overton whoever gets first crack at the 4th seamer spot.
First century: Usman Khawaja
First 5 wicket haul: Pat Cummins.

One of the worst England line ups ever seen . Cook Root, Ali and Bairstow decent bats but the rest are rubbish.
Anderson is cannon fodder on these decks without the ball swinging. He will be a handful under lights at Adelaide but Woakes and Broad will be England's best bowlers.

Bancroft and Paine could do anything in this series bad or good, Marsh seriously why are we going down that path again. Would have been the perfect series to start Maxwell at home.

Our bowling line up is far superior and should account for a week England batting line up.

Stokes out is a huge loss.

Watching the highlights of the 13 series man England played some terrible cricket, they got out a lot of soft dismissals. Lots of hook shots caught, short cover/ mid wicket and a lot of bowled/ caught behind where they were in 2 minds of playing. They were spooked. Can't see them being that rattled again but just think that there is a lot of pressure on Cook and Root to score huge runs as they won't get much support.

Almost went Useless Koala for the first Aussie dropped.

The bloke who averages 64 in Australia?

Bolstered by playing substandard competition in series wins against New Zealand, West Indies and Pakistan.

England: 58 @ 29.00
NZ: 68 @ 22.67
NZ: 304 @ 152.00*
WI: 200 @ 100.00*
SAF: 314 @ 52.33
PAK: 267 @ 53.40*

He's never done well against England.

Test 1989 Vs ENG @ SYD -- 37 & 21
Test 2091 Vs ENG @ Lord's -- 14 & 54
Test 2092 Vs ENG @ Man -- 1 & 24
Test 2093 Vs ENG @ C-L-E -- 0 & 21

172 runs in 4 tests for an average of 21.5

The only series that the Koala has played well in against top competition here in Australia was his good 314 runs in the three test series against South Africa. In the other series he faces better competition at state level.

Any Australians out there secretly barracking for England?

No secretly about it. Though England are nearly as tiresome as Australia. A triangular series involving the pair of them and India would be really something to sneer at.

Prediction: England to rely heavily on Bairstow and Ali. Aside from that I’ve got nothing.

Warney to say ‘cherry,’ bring up Collingwood’s MBE, and Ian Bell’s nickname every 5 minutes maybe.

So he has played one test vs england at home 7 years ago and scored 58 runs how does that make him likely to fail in this series?

I notice you left out his stats vs SA at home last summer, he was our best batsman in a series where we batted so bad most of the team got sacked, surely that is more relevant than one test match 7 years ago?

Series result: 2-1 Aus
Top Australia batsman: Smith
Top England batsmen: Root
Top Australia bowler: Hazelwood
Top England bowler: Anderson
First Australian dropped*: Marsh/Maxwell - selectors will find we will need an extra seam all rounder in Cartwright as the pace trio will be feeling the strain early on
First Englishman dropped*: Vince
First century: Khawaja at home
First 5 wicket haul: Starc
