Starc was also pretty ordinary in the 5th test, so took 20 of his 23 wickets in the first 3 tests when the series was live.

I think the selectors might have given Starc another game off if they had their time again.

Starc seems pretty stubborn, plus they were probably nervous after Melbourne with Bird/Cummins not looking threatening at all. Lyon bowled well, so they could've actually played Agar.

I'm going by Starc having a better average, strike rate and Cummins only took one more wicket than Starc despite Starc playing one less Test.

Very little to separate the 4. Starc's average is lower because he never had to play in Melbourne. Hazlewood had the best innings figures for a test. Cummins most wickets and best figures for a test match. Lyon probably the most consistant over the 5 matches.
