But then we’d be having the exact same argument about the Brisbane test!!! I suppose the hope was by mid January that WA would have got over it.

But the other issue with Perth first up, is they’ve just changed their border rules again overnight, so Carey would suddenly not be allowed to play potentially or Khawaja?

Whenever it was held there would always be problems, at least now they can fix it easily, wouldn’t be so easy 5 days out from the first test.

Exactly you could not trust their premier not changing rules on the spot. Smart decision give a second to Melbourne under lights

If Perth can't host it should be another venue other than Melbourne that hasn't already had a Test. CA have a rare chance to cover themselves in glory here and not just follow the money.

CA also have a rare chance to catch up on a shit load of revenue that they have lost

After losing a bucket the last few years you can’t blame them going where the money is. I wouldn’t be against Hobart but one is 15,000 and one is 100k and you know you are getting 200-250k at least in Melbourne. Think putting it under lights there is a great idea.

Most "traditions" in Australian cricket dare back to the post WSC period, I can remember watching ODIs on Boxing Day in the 80s, or in the case of the deification of the cap even more recently than that.
The Shane Warne hattrick test started before Christmas Eve and had a rest day on the 25th.

I think that might have been the last rest day used in Australia... but not completely sure.

Yep, rare chance for day nighter in Melbourne, how could they not go for it?

Also would be an event so it may even draw more than the Boxing Day if it goes 5 days. Actually think there needs to be 3 pink ball tests a summer just wonder if it works in Melbourne whether they’d consider it normally? I know Sydney have asked about D/N being a possibility

Suggest you revisit the definition of 'tradition' and note it's relationship to history.

Brisbane has regularly hosted the 1st test for Australian based cricket test tours since 1931.

Since 1982, the Gabba has been the first venue of the Ashes series when played in Australia.
Traditions change.

They changed the order of tests last year because pragmatism outweighed tradition - there's no reason they couldn't have done it this year as well.

There are actually still people out there who believe the bowlers knew nothing…😂😂😂😂

I think its more who cares if they did know if they didnt tamper with the ball or break any rules?

Steyn philander morkel ect knew their team was ball tampering as did flintoff and the other english bowlers in the famous 2005 ashes but none were punished or even accused of any wrong doing so why would the aussie bowlers be punished when no other bowler ever has been?

So we change it then what…

Do you actually believe the premier won’t change rules 2 days before the game…I sure as anything wouldn’t bet against that happening…

Then what’s the plan we’ve changed the whole thing and then the premier puts more protocols in place. How about no.

England have been very fair they have done their quarantine they don’t need to waste more time doing it again. Hold the second match D/N at the MCG.

Also have the issues of families not being allowed in and restrictions on broadcasters. It’s a nightmare and it doesn’t need to be. Glad CA have said thanks but no thanks WA

Gabba was the last test last year, so the weather thing is a copout

The Perth tests I've been too have been December ones too, found it weird we were getting a January one this year anyway

CA must have hoped we would be vaxxed up by now, unfortunately we aren't so the public will cop the punishment for the 25% who aren't playing their part.

hope Melbourne get a day nighter to replace it, better for us Perth timezone

Ask Australia who they'd rather face and they would sign the ticket now to face Wood or Robinson over those two
They are somewhere between hot-garbage and average in Australian conditions

Boxing Day will always be a daytime test

If England had originally arrived in Perth, they would have quarantined exactly as they are doing now in Brisbane.

Australian squad could have done the same (as they have done all year for international tournaments) and actually got some decent match practice.

With both teams there, it wouldn’t matter what McGowan did re: borders two days before the match.

As it is, both teams are going in underdone to the first test and CA still can’t say where its fifth test is going to be.

It’s a mess but given what I’ve heard from people working at CA, it’s par for the course.

Talk about tradition, that’s ok, but if I remember rightly, Perth has had Test Number 2, after Brisbane for close on 50 years.
a “traditional” 5 test summer, not that we have many of those these days, is Brisbane-Adelaide-Perth-Melbourne-Sydney

Used to be Brisbane-Perth-Melbourne-Sydney-Adelaide.

Since CA sold out the Australia Day test for BBL cash, not sure we can be that worried about tradition anymore.

End of the day CA aren’t going to being backwards for WA. CA gave WA options they didn’t want them, all the options were fair. Test goes elsewhere. Blame the muppet in charge not cricket Australia

If the last state election is anything to go by most WAustralians are pretty happy with the boss. The WA Parliamentary Liberal Party hold their meetings in a Tarago these days.

?

I was just talking about the ridiculous attachment to 'tradition', which gets thrown out at the first sniff of cash.

You really seem to have an obsession with the WA premier.

This has zero to do with cash though it’s all to do with England rightly so not wanting to quarantine again.

WA are the ones not being that flexible and that’s fine it’s their call but don’t expect teams to quarantine then have to do it again.

Again, not what I was talking about but anyway, show me on the panda where Mr McGowan touched you:

Won't miss a WA Test. I used to look forward to them when the WACA offered a unique sporty pitch. Even if it was the Windies torturing our blokes it was great to see a pitch offering quality quicks something.

Autobahns have been served up there for years. The ultimate condemnation of WA pitches was Mitch Marsh, statistically the worst number 6 in the History of Test Cricket to have been gifted 30+ matches, scored his maiden ton there.

Of course he got another gift at the G on such a Roady McRoad that even Cook scored a double.

WA folk do not turn up to Tests unless the Poms or SA are playing (big ex pat communities.
