Ummm... all I have read is that players might be going home after playing 3 tests and that the ECB is considering picking up to 30 players.....I did not see anything about cancelling tests

It will be interesting considering we have 3 sub-continent tours next year, is before that the right time to make big changes?
Do we know who our future test gloveman is?
Is it between Carey and Inglis?
Should we be moving on Warner for more inexperience before these tours, seeing as we don't even have an established second opener?
Do we have a clear next captain?
If so, when should they be brought in?
Do we need sub-continent specialists for these upcoming tours?
Will Starc even get a game in Asia? Considering Hazlewood and Cummins are certain starters.
Should Pucovksi be persisted with an opener or a number 5?

So many questions and so little answers. I personally don't think we should be making a lot of changes until the start of next summer against the Windies and South Africa.

all valid questions.

if you are looking towards our next test (as long as everyone is fit and available), the team should like this:
warner, puckovski, labuschagne, smith, head, green, paine, cummins, starc, lyon, hazlewood.

pattinson, neser or jhye could also be pressing for starc's spot.

next gloveman - it may be a case of being in the right place at the right time - eg. good form at the time paine pulls the pin etc.
this won't mean that they are the next long term glovemen either, it'll just mean they get the first crack at it.

warner should go to the sub continent as he has the experience with IPL etc and he is still the best opener we have got, although he is closer to the end than the start of his career. we've tried burns, harris, renshaw, bancroft at the top of the order without much success.

next captain - is anyone's guess really. i think it should be smith, which will buy as time grooming a test captain.
marnus hasn't done it, cummins - not a fan of a bowler doing it, carey - would hate to give it to him on test debut, only for him to start his career poorly and be dropped and to find another one - so that's a risk as well.

sub continent specialists ? - we have some - who ? this is where green could be important and required to bowl some overs and get wickets and allow a swepson to play. maxwell/agar ??

puckovski probably has to open, unless some openers start banging down the door in shield cricket.

Do it, England camp. The show will go on.

Also, I see no mention of SA & WI again. With all this talk of postponing and now split year-long "series", I don't think I've seen anyone in the media talk about how this could affect them, and I thought Australia was meant to be the disrespectful ones.

I highly doubt this series will go ahead at all. The Australian government have no clue what they are doing with their own people let alone a cricket touring party from overseas.

It's going ahead. England and India are probably literally going to play a single test match next year to complete a "series" just so England don't miss out on the insurance money. It's all about the bucks kids, the rest is conversation. Wouldn't be the first Ashes not to have all the best players available, won't be the last.

Ca and ecb will still want some sort of tour to go ahead, issue for english players is they simply lack the star quality to make threats about boycotts, ben stokes and maybe archer yes casual aussie fans will show up to watch them but archer was out already and stokes was doubtful covid or no covid, most aussie fans wont care what english players turn up as this is a very poor english side and the few big draws weren't coming anyway.

Don't get me wrong the likes of root anderson ect missing would be a big deal to us on this board but those guys dont move the needle for the majority watching a home aussie test summer they just arent a big enough deal here that people would say oh s**t the home ashes is tainted and we shouldnt watch because joe root isnt part of it.

I think there'll be some sort of series. If it is a B team, it'll have a massive asterisk next to it, but as frankrizzo notes, the mouth breathers who think Channel 7 is good coverage won't care. The players will, though.

The fans will care, no test cricket for a year then we get some B graders from England no one has ever heard of. It's going to massively hurt cricket.

Ah yes, because no elite level sport has been happening the past 12 months... How clueless are you?
We were meant to play tests in South Africa but circumstances happened unfortunately. It is a T20 World Cup year. We went on 3 white ball tours, all to smaller nations, all I doubt would have been that keen to play tests against us anyways. Not to mention the IPL 2nd half being rescheduled.

Maybe CA should've scheduled more Tests like the ECB, and then we could have players from both sides complaining about the toll of these past 18 months.
We are seeing the chickens come home to roost for England & India it seems. India's players couldn't wait to get out of England after being there for months. Their jam-packed schedule is pretty insane. England isn't that far behind.

The fans will care, no test cricket for a year then we get some B graders from England no one has ever heard of. It's going to massively hurt cricket.
Having no tests this summer would hurt more.

Have you watched this england team lately?

You really think casual aussie fans have been staying up till 2 in morning watching to see whether malan pope and haseeb hameed do better than the likes crawley burns and sibley?

Englands first choice team would have been a who are these blokes lineup anyway outside a few well known players (root jimmy ect)who aussies fans dont even rate anyway because they havent done a lot over here compared to their overall careers, this is the home ashes aussie fans just want england to play the role washington generals to the harlem globetrotters just pretend to be competitive while we crush you.

If the only two choices are a weaker england side or no ashes at all then its clear which one hurts more.

Phillipe still has a future....just needs a couple of solid shield seasons and I think we will start to see that in the next few shield seasons

Renshaw still young ..again needs a a solid shield season

Inglis the skys the limit

Carey

Richardson

Swepson is a talent

The talent is there.....it is not that bad
Agree on all players. Will add potential future openers in Bryce Street and Henry Hunt. This is an out of the box pick.. Sydney born Tim Ward is a name to watch. He will likely take Alex Doolan's spot for Tassie. Tanveer Sangha may be our best wristie tweaker since Warne. Pick him for our A team if the Pom Lions tour.
As for our bowling in say five years I see Richardson and Cummins leading our attack with one or two of a group of talented quicks from Qld.

Having no tests this summer would hurt more.
Betting the Poms dont want the Ashes called off any more than do we. Sanity will prevail and as skipper Tim Paine says, the ECB will send a full strength side. If worse case scenario and an under strength side is sent then pit em against our Test second stringers. Be good experience for them.

It will be interesting considering we have 3 sub-continent tours next year, is before that the right time to make big changes?~~horses for courses. Pick our best players of spin if stats are available.
Do we know who our future test gloveman is?
Is it between Carey and Inglis?`~~ those two and Peirson.
Should we be moving on Warner for more inexperience before these tours, seeing as we don't even have an established second opener?~~~Yes. His sub cont record is rubbish. A rookie could not do any worse and he will get good experience.
Do we have a clear next captain?
If so, when should they be brought in?~~this is the most perplexing point.. and probably the most important.
Do we need sub-continent specialists for these upcoming tours? ~~ as above.
Will Starc even get a game in Asia? Considering Hazlewood and Cummins are certain starters.~~ no Starc. Jhye Richardson gets my vote.
Should Pucovksi be persisted with an opener or a number 5? ~~ CA wants him to open.. I prefer him #5.

So many questions and so little answers. I personally don't think we should be making a lot of changes until the start of next summer against the Windies and South Africa.
Good points. My views are above.
Correct. A lack of planning does pervade Australian cricket. Seems we dont hear much from CA about a certain tour until it is almost upon us. Outside of the Pandemic that is.
