We were 5/482 at stumps on Day 1
Clarke 220, Warner 119, Hussey 103.

It was an incredibly disappointing draw.

I also see that James Pattinson didn't bowl in the second innings. Must have injured himself

He did.

Pretty much caused a bunch of dominos to fall, because Siddle & Hilfenhaus then couldn't pull up for the next Test match since their workload was increased.

And then to top it all off, the selectors picked...John Hastings.

At the time, I was proud that the AUS 2012/13 side (which was heavily reliant on Michael Clarke) competed against a significantly stronger SA side on paper, but looking back, that has to be one of the most frustrating series I've ever witnessed.

We genuinely had the better of the first two Tests, only to fall in a heap in the third and lose the series.

Ugh.

On top of the Pies and wines, this place is there now too.

Fun part of Australia. Fortunate enough to live relatively close by.
Oof. Now you're speaking my language

So with Lyon and Cummins back into the side for Adelaide, it seems a simple selection of Doggett and Neser out for those two.
But the more I think of what we have seen in Brisbane, the more I think they may opt for Neser over Boland. Bowling during a time where the ball was a marshmallow and the pitch didn't have a heap going on, Neser's ability to put it on a hanky with Carey standing up to the stumps stifled England's ability to score and managed to eeek out the wickets we needed. A key to that is Carey's amazing glovework of course. I don't just put it down to Nesers knowledge of the pitch and the pink ball as it was doing next to nothing during the day.
On an Adelaide deck that will flatten out at some stage, having a bowler like Neser with Carey at the stumps might be the variation we need, moreso than Boland's nagging lengths, which have been a bit hit and miss this series.
I think Boland is the easiest option, he is arguably the best seamer behind the big 3 but what Neser was able to do in the last test, not to mention his superior batting ability, might just see a surprise selection for Adelaide.

I don't think they will go down the Neser path for Adelaide but I don't hate it. I'd really love a fresh Scott Boland for the MCG. He hasn't really had a lot of bowling though so he probably doesn't need a rest.

Yeah if you asked me before the Brisbane test- or even half way through I wouldn't have thought it was a possibility. But now I think it is a decent chance. I think either way they go there would be a good case and who ever misses out has every right to feel hard done by. High quality problem.

Inglis must feel very Australian because if he had chosen to play for England he surely would have got the chance to become their first choice Wicket Keeper at least a couple of years ago.
Definitely a better keeper than Bairstow and Smith (from what we've seen of him so far) so in terms of playing he surely would have seen that as an easier path than getting past Paine who was captain and Carey who was talked about as next in line for some time.

Nah, England have a perfectly cromulent wicketkeeper in Foakes, they just don't respect the value a keeper has.

This is what I'd do, and keep Scotty for the G.
As a person who is going to the Boxing Day test for the first time. I feel like a fresh and firing Scott Boland will make my experience so much better.

Will the Pom batters come out all guns blazing in Adelaide? Double down the Bazball?

Or will it be a Stokes/Jacks 2nd innings transformation?
I feel like this Ashes series is "this next match is their biggest chance" over and over again.

That said, I think Adelaide is their biggest chance. Think the long break means Archer won't have any bite from being championed, Stokes looks semi-broken but might be re-culted after a few surf sessions with Baz at Noosa.

I think Smudge's house had a water tank in it and he hasn't stopped hitting it since the Gabba.

Am I the only one struggling to see the hype with Bethell? He's got a FC average less than 30, and never hit a century. Looks like a solid prospect for limited overs cricket... but that's much of England's problem, selecting T20/ODI players in Test matches. Asa Tribe scored 100 in the PMs XI game (granted, against limited bowlers), and a 200 just a few months back in a County game.
Tribe made his 100 against Australia A, facing Richardson, Bartlett, O'Neil and Murphy. 53no in the PM's XI match.

I guess he'll have to settle for winning a World Cup and captaining Australia in two formats. Poor guy.....

1. Drop specialist keeper that is fine with bat
2. Put in another t20 batter that likes the cult
3. Put gloves on one of the t20 batters
4.????
5. Win ashes
Worse is we called up Jordan cox as keeper for the last New Zealand tour. campaigner has never kept in first class cricket to my very poor knowledge and he averages mid 30s with the bat.

Adelaide is going to be interesting for England’s pace attack.

Forecast

Day 1 - 33
Day 2 - 35
Day 3 - 33
Day 4 - 27
Day 5 - 25

Also, this is why Lyon is needed.

good call. they're in strife.
I'm seeing 35 on Day 1, 36 on Day 2.
We have to win the toss and bat first then.
