aus selectors and torpedoing confidence in young players. what a surprise!
Call me old-fashioned but if you're picked for your Country it's your job to perform.

It's not the selectors' job to piss in your pocket and tell you how wonderful you are.

It's the selectors' job to tell you what they think you're doing right and what they think you can improve on.

It's not a ****ing participation award.

Equally, there are plenty of great cricketers who had to go through this right of passage. Got a taste, didn't lock down a spot and had to go away and work on themselves/their game before it clicking.

Have shared a beer or three with some of them at the AO tests over the years.

When they started in the mid 90's, there wasn't many of them and they were genuine cricket nuffies who loved the game and a few beers and were great to talk to. Lots of friendly banter, no issues at all.

The last couple of England tours here however in my opinion have seen them change. They're not the same now, as they have a lot of 'hangers on' with them now and some of them are absolute ********s.
Barmy Army is just a travel agency these days.

You need to feel for Konstas abit.. was rushed into the side averaging 50 in FC cricket over a small sample size and just hasn't lived up to it.

Nothing like rushing in a NSW player who was nowhere near ready based on 1 game on the flattest pitch in Australia.

Very true Kellaway would have played for Australia if he was from nsw, but konstas is scotty bolands bitch at the moment.
Don’t get sucked in. Kellaway will play for Australia, he passed his test yesterday with flying colours. Technically he’s the best young opener around.

Green, provided he pulls up ok, slots in at 6 as the bowling all rounder, Webster misses, Marnus bats at 3 and Weatherald will get a go at opener.

anyone who actually watches Konstas bat can see he is nowhere near test cricket ATM

I hope he makes it as a test player in the future, but no way should he be playing this series

for me we play a conventional top 3 with green at 6

webster probably unlucky but it's a better balance imo

I’d still lean to the play your best 6 bats. Usually I’d be against it but I’d open with Marnus

Still like to not have to rely on Green with the ball

Ton in a shield final and has looked awesome this year. He’s next after Khawaja surely
Hardly awesome, has done his job to a certain degree.

This is the first time in the shield this year he's made runs in the First Innings.

He, and all the openers, have time to convince the selectors. Usman will play out The Ashes I think, and I don't believe we have another Test match until Sept/Oct. Remains to be seen if the Afghanistan Test in July/Aug goes ahead - hope it does, but it's hardly a stern examination for new players. The SA tour will be.

He has made runs in the second innings which are harder runs to make. Done way better than any other younger option. Khawaja goes the replacement has to be young

He hasn't got much competition in the "younger" field. Most of the shield openers are late 20's or worse.

He's been around for a bit now, 4 seasons. 3 hundreds in 4 seasons, and one of them was a fortnight ago.

I would've thought the primary consideration for Khawaja's replacement has to be making runs.
Youth isn't a compelling CV. A good track record is a better one.
