Ashes 3rd test @ The WACA

As a Tasmanian who has generally been a supporter of Faulkner - he is currently nowhere near the side and shouldn't be anywhere near the side. For a number of reasons. It's a shame because I still think he has the ability to be very handy all-rounder at Test level. Would be unlikely to average more than mid 30s at a stretch and ideally would bat at 7 below a keeper batting 6 and averaging 40. As a bowler, though, he'd be a more than respectable 4th quick.

It would be horrible to finish the WACA off with a no result but it might be the sort to crack and fall apart by day five so Lyon can take 15 for the match and easily win the most wickets this year.

The WACA has pretty much always been a no turning road. Spinners tend not to do well.

That said, I watched Bobbie Paulsen pick up 7 pommy wickets in a session at the WACA. I think Roo Yardley did something similar back in the day. The extra bounce can make a difference.

Marsh's shoulder won't be good enough to bowl 20 overs

Then why is he in the side apart from Lehmann wanting him...

If he can’t bowl 20 he shouldn’t be near the side! He’s an extremely ordinary test number 6!

The worst average of a test number 6 to have played 20+ tests...

Yes boys we’ve picked him again to bat 6...just lol

His shoulder has been stuffed for two years so the year of cricket prior to his Shoulder reconstruction in March 2017 was under sufferance .
Marsh has been in fine form since his comeback and could be on track again , the Australian selectors think so ...I have seen him play once at the WACA this season he made 95 , I only saw the first session it was like ten 4s in his 50 but Mennie was bowling maybe we could get him back as an all rounder .
The Aussie selectors like there All Rounders Marsh is top of the group with the most potential , Mennie was tried also its just what Australia are looking for .

The might of Joe Mennie..remind us how he went at test level. Marsh has played 3 or 4 Shield games and that’s enough to pick him....lol

We don’t need an AR especially not a poor one.

Once Cameron Green returns he is an all rounder who could be a chance of a genuine bowling all rounder down the track .

So another bloke Langer will want to love in the media..I hope he does well but jeez I’m over all rounders.

Here is an idea and it’s a novel one- play 6 bats. If a bowler needs a rest, replace one of the quicks with a bowler.

Can we stop the fascination with bits and pieces all rounders. There isn’t a Kallis type so we don’t need them.

The WACA is a flat deck, I think the selectors are right to start looking to a 5th bowler. Marsh is a solid batsmen, obviously his record does not show that as yet, but lets get behind the team.

Never actively wished a player fail and that doesn't change so hopefully Marsh plays well and helps us win.
Won't be surprised if he's rubbish though, don't agree with the selection.

Marsh will fail again

Shame Handscomb will go - I would drop Khawaja

To be fair Handscomb has looked awful and he needs to go back and get some confidence back.

We won’t be dropping Khawaja after he got 50+ and then an important small innings in the 2nd. Plus he’s the only number 3 we have- Smith is a more natural 4.

M Marsh doesn't have the technique of a top order bat. Neither does Handscomb for that matter.

Interesting.

Wonder what the pitch will do. The last few roads in WA have been shit for cricket.

Where is Hanscomb going to go back to in order to get form and confidence....yep the Melbourne Stars

Why not Faulkner (WTF has happend to him?)
Had quite a few injuries last few years. Unorthdox looking but been bloody effective with every opportunity he as gotten at various levels and formats.

In an awkward spot for test cricket. With a weak batting line up and strong bowling he doesn't really fit into that team at #7. Our batting isn't near strong enough to have our keeper at #6. If our batting was stronger or our bowling weaker and reall needed a strong #5 bowler I'd say he definitely would have played more than one test.

Looking forward to watching the Aussies win the series and then go on to make it 5-0. Not overly happy with the M Marsh decision. What happens if he actually does something with the ball but fails with the bat? Does he then get Handscomb/Maxwells spot at the G?

He is not good enough to bat at number 6, it is that simple.

I get the might be a bit of a dill vibe about Faulkner.
