No. Neither of them. Averages aren't everything but 10.16 from 6 innings (Shaun) and 24.75 from 8 innings (Mitchell) make for poor reading.

If Marsh was in the runs you could make a case for him to come back into the side. He looked very good until injury in South Africa and being recalled against India after 1 big bash game

Has Marsh even scored any runs for WA this year??
No, and he was even dropped from WA this year. But I still rate him. He needs to hit form, play some county and make a showing for the second leg

That list fills me with no confidence whatsoever.
What about...

Cowan
Warner
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Klinger
Wade

At least Klinger has been consistent for many years now an could be leadership material and potential captain if Watto and Pup were injured. There was a foxsports article about who would captain in their absence and the suggestion was Cowan and Warner. Nah I will pass on them. Bring in the Kling

I'd go with David Hussey. I know its controversial but in my mind the Western Australian is Australia's best ever cricketer (in my time) to never play for Australia in a test. He also has a wealth of experience and has the ability to be a solid contributor with the bat in a time where Australia's experience is lacking, both internationally and domestically.

The draw back of this option is that he won't be able to be apart of the team long term and would probably only play 3-4 years at most. But at least this will give the team a chance to bring on young batsmen into the team and by the time David Hussey exits, players like Warner, Cowan, Khawaja should be set in the team strong.

The draw back option is you're picking a 35yo who for years and years you've marked down as not a test option due to his problem with the short ball, and has barely scored a run in the shield season too. It would be a huge turn around, and not even based on previous test success

Maxwell is in a good postition if he plays well next week, especially if Watson saying he may not bowl. I wouldn't be suprised if he plays the Indian series and then they stick with him and 4 quicks in the Ashes.

Khawaja to come in at number 4 because he is certainly not a no 6.

Watson has to move down to 6.

If David Hussey was picked for whatever reason, this wouldn't need to happen. I honestly see no other options, Quiney was over hyped imo and I want to see Doolan maintain his shield form for the rest of the summer. Half a season of good form shouldn't get you picked like Forrest did last summer.

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Watson
Clarke
Wade/Burns
Maxwell/Wade

Burns is the man I reckon. Will be a gun
Maybe. But his first class form isn't that great this summer is it? If he gets picked, it has to be when in form. If he was to finish the Shield season very strongly perhaps he could just come into contention for England, but its probably too late and certainly too late for India.
He's one of those where an AusA tour, or being shopped around to try and get him a county contract if he doesn't yet have one, could be beneficial.

Khawaja in for Watson if Watson decides to become a non-allrounder. Can't make the team with only the bat or ball alone with his records.

Got a ton in his first innings of the season, making me hope he wasn't going down the Lynn/Maddinson road, and then has performed like Lynn/Maddinson since. What a guy

Can anybody explain to me why Callum Ferguson has never gone to England to play County in the offseason?

No test cricket = very hard to get past home office and get a county deal.

It's never stopped Adam Voges and the like. Could it indicate a lack of desire, or am I reading too much into it?

So how did guys like North and Voges make it?

Even Hughes who at the time had a reputation as a walking wicket got a contract.

Has anyone on here seen Doolan bat? I haven't seen him so just wondering what his technique is like and how he bats? His numbers are certainly impressive.

Yes, classical first class player who when on song has an excellent front foot Technique, drives and Cover drives exceptionally well. does not cut much but will punch through covers and point of the back foot if the pitch is reliable , plays off his pads and glances for the bulk of his leg side runs. probably a reason for his form increase is his added the pull shot this season more frequently, though it will go through mid wicket a lot though he is controlling it down so it’s safe when played right. Big weakness at least tot his year was a predictability where he would play and could really be tied down scoring wise, a reason he plays so little one day cricket for Tasmania or twenty/20.

When off song has a habit of playing shots without feetwork that looks shocking, can get tied down and build pressure on himself is a real confidence player, he needs to build an innings. He is more a no ¾ than a 5 or 6 you would think too.

I assume Khawaja comes in, he had a short little test career mostly played on green decks where nearly all our bats struggled and since then he has gone back and scored runs in the shield so i don't see why he wouldn't get a second chance.

They changed the rules in about 08. I think there was a grandfather clause which Voges may get in through. But it's more likely Voges gets past home office through parents or grandparents.

And Hughes (& North) had played test cricket. You can get past home office if you've played 1 test match in the last 2 years, or 5 test matches in the last 5 years. Otherwise you need parents/grandparents/wife/being born there

Only players who have held a valid work permit for four years will be able to continue to be employed as though they were EU citizens by counties.

That is unless they have played one Test match in the past two years or five Test matches in the past five.

Hence why Starc and Cowan got county deals as soon as they played test cricket. (oh and obviously slightly different rules apply to their T20 league)

Has nothing to do with having played test cricket or not. Our state level shits all over the county league, so majority of players would be accepted to play in England.
