Cant beleive these selectors if the stories of Haddin coming back are true. You are going to pick a 36 year old wicketkeeper because he is the best candidate for VC? Do you even need a VC? And what leadership does haddin offer? At 6 for 15 charge dale steyn and try and hit him out of the park? that kind of leadership?

What does that say to matt Wade? What does that say to Paine or any other keeper? We will pick a worse keeper/batsman because of his leadership.

Say Michael Clarke does get injured, he can still captain from the sidelines. Its not as if cricket is a fast game and messages cant be sent out. Captains are pretty overated in cricket i reckon anyway.

And Shane Watson, what do you do with him. Id leave him at home. Been the VC for a while now but now doesnt want to be. Not sure if he is allowed to bowl again yet? So now he wants to get a game as just a batsmen and isnt even VC? When will he start telling the media he wants to open again? This guy is a cnacer to the team. Leave him home.

Well it'll be an interesting morning either way. The Idiocracy that is Australian Cricket Management will be under the pump whatever they do, as they'll be backflipping on one or more of their previous backflips no matter what.

A few points, reading back on this thread this morning:

- posters "in the know" didn't seem to know even a few days ago the squad would be announced today
- Seems stupid given the amount of FC cricket to be played (in England especially) by fringe players contending for spots. But perhaps its the only way of preventing idiot selectors ignoring one-day form in the Champs Trophy & IPL.
- be even more interesting if a journo actually asks the question why on the timing at the presser instead of the usual pap like "are you looking forward to the tour?"
- Shaun Marsh would beggar belief as a selection, topping even Watson's recall to the Captaincy and the dropping of Lyon in India. The equivalent of ditching your wife because your old girlfriend with bigger ***s turns up at the pub on a Friday night.
- be a sensible reward to see Rogers picked. Older head, useful anywhere in the order. He would destroy things Faulkner-style if overlooked for Marsh.
- Can't see the issue with Haddin on here. Clearly in the top echelon of Shield players this year, experienced leadership-wise and a better keeper than the incumbent. Nuff said.
- Scary comments in the Saltau/Wu article today if true. Implies that Haddin could be V-C and not play. Incredulous - surely he's guaranteed 5 Tests barring injury or a Shaun Marsh run of form.

unbelievable that we've got selectors that we actually make that planning for. surely they can just, you know, not get fooled again by one day and 20-20 form.... sure if there's a very tight selection battle now between (for instance) starc and johnson, you'd probably pick the one who is bowling the best in the weeks leading up the selection's which may include one day and 20-20 form. but as a selector it's surely a fairly easy part of the job to sort through the shit.

i was thinking it was possible he could be a squad VC but not in the actual team. first reserve batsmen who comes in the event clarke gets injured, and straight in as captain.

i just don't see the point in naming pretty much the full squad now. apparentaly they're gonna leave one spot open for a later date to bring the squad to 17, but what if a few fringe players go on heaters.... or in that case do we just take an extra player or two over? i'd rather the latter, then leave a guy in great form behind who could make a difference.

what they really should've done is got around, picked about 11-13 guarantee's (barring injury), not necessarily the starting XI because there's probably more guaranteed bowlers then batsmen at the moment... then not announce those blokes but just keep them to themselves as knowing this the core part of the squad. and then announced the full squad the day after the end of the australia a tour and champions trophy (both finishing june 23), with the first ashes test july 10.
