Lets go after McGrath from Brisbane - he is not happy with being left out of GF team and latest contract offer.

He is young and fast, carries the ball well, can play back, forward or in the middle.

Get Macca and Stiffy to talk to him to see if he is keen on the red, gold and blue.

It may give us some flexibility in the draft - we could even go after a tall given we pick up Thomspon and McGrath in other parts of the draft/trade period.

If we do not go after him the talk already is that Collingwood or Essendon will.

Worth a look if he available. Will add pace.

I wouldn't mind picking him up in the pre-season draft but there is no way he would slip past Collingwood who have a pick before us.

Not sure about him as a midfielder but he would be good as a forward or a HBF.

We would be ka-razy not to pick him up with our 5th pick. Excellent young speedy forward type.

As mentioned above, though, doubt he'd get to pick 5.

Thats the problem though. Collingwood's needs are similar to our needs and Collingwood's bank Account is equal to ours if not bigger.

I couldn't see Collingwood passing up on him because, like us they also need some pace in the side. Not to mention that Richmond (need everything), Hawthorn (need everything) and Western Bulldogs (need a small crumbing forward) have picks before Collingwood or Adelaide get a sniff.

McGrath would be ideal as a crumbing forward for us. I think our midfield is shaping up fairly well this season, with the absence of a tagger (but would Craig use a tagger anyway?)
I doubt he'll hang around till our pick, but in the immortal words of that Cadbury ad, wouldn't it be nice.

Just had a bit of a read of The Age this morning.

It seems more than likely that Patrick Bowden & Ty Zantuck will nominate for the pre-season draft, with McGrath & Clark Keating still yet to come to terms with the Lions. Assuming McGrath does go into the pre-season draft & let's assume Keating doesn't, then, the pre-season draft may look like this...

1 Richmond - Bowden
2 Hawthorn - Zantuck or McGrath
3 Bulldogs - Zantuck or McGrath
4 Collingwood - ??
5 Adelaide - ??

Delisted players that may get re-drafted again??

Steve McKee, Ben Cunningham, David Spriggs, Adrian Cox, Lance Picioane, Justin Blumfield, Tim Fleming, Cain Ackland...

From a Crows perspective, I'd say McGrath (who won't get to us) & Ackland (providing Alan Stewart gives him the nod) would be the only 2 I'd consider. I would prefer us to use our pick 5 on an untried youngster (who misses out on the National Draft, a la Trent Hentschel) than any other retreads.

What d'you fellas think?

Agreed.....no-one in that list really impresses so we go for an untried youngster if we can't get McGrath.
A decision on Ackland is going to depend on
a)....Stewy's view on Ackland
b)....Stevo's fitness
c)....How we fair in the draft as far as ruckmen are concerned. If we pick Wood or similar....then we wouldn't even be contemplating Ackland.

We should know all the answers to these questions by PSD day.

There are a lot of other players that are yet to sign with their new clubs so the order of the draft can change dramatically by the time national draft comes around.

I know the chances of it happening are zilch but imagine if we pinch Brett Ebert from Port via pre-season :p. I wonder what the reaction of port supporters would be:p. A son of a gun playing for the crows:p

Probably similar to when the Cornes boys were picked by Port. They would be spewin just as we were. I think he just wouldnt do it though. Unlike the Corneses he wants to follow in his dads footsteps not rub them out.
