Anyway, Port recruited Jon Evans, from the VFL, around about 1975, as a chf/chb type, trouble was we never realised that he could only handle those roles on the training track, during a game he was useless.

Definitely a non-Port type player, who would have looked a million dollars on the training track but only 25 cents during a game. Not very physical or brave.

You mention Trevor Sorrell. Pasty white legs off memory, and was regarded as soft in the early part of his career. Hardenend up during his career and ended up a very good player.

The later clearly was a dud, whereas Kenny has played key roles in the Crows winning many games. There is no comparison - if you think there is, you clearly have no idea. I have no illusions about the difficulties of being a small forward in the modern game, but Sampi has never delivered consistently even when playing his best football. He'll be seen as having value by anyone who has only ever watched the highights reel of West Coast games, but I think player recruitment in the AFL is a little more sophisticated than that isn't it?

And if his problems are just attitudinal, it reportedly stems from the fact that Perth is too far away from his traditional home. Last time I checked, Adelaide and Melbourne were further away from Broome then Subiaco Oval. I can't see why Adelaide would give up good players or draft picks for such a problem child.
