My Asian housemate wanted me to lie on his registration form because he didn't want to have to wear glasses when driving

Nope, it actually happened!

As became apparent over time though he was a bit of a weirdo. At first I just put this down to "Oh he probably just never culturally integrated very well when he moved over" (he was 13 or so when he moved here he said) but I think it was mostly mental issues of some sort. He also once said "even my Chinese [where he was from] friends don't like me"

Asian drivers as a whole are no worse than any other race. The problem is (I was told this by my younger sisters driving instructor) that many of them that immigrate here dont bother getting lessons or learning the road rules and just bribe the tester, I never knew about it but he swears its very common.

Another example is in Singapore they are fine drivers however common driving courtesy (which is also disappearing at a fast rate here) is just non existant, they shove in, cut people off etc however they dont consider it rude, just not in their culture never has been. Same as when they walk down the street, they push in, stop right in front of you and generally drive you to breaking point. Again its not intentional just the way they are.

haha my mum was on a packed bus coming back from work in the city with an Asian driver who slammed on the brakes all the time. Five or six times people fell down because of it, often with a domino effect

i was in hong kong for a holiday in 2006 and you shouldve seen those asian bus drivers negotiating up and down those steep hills in those massive double decker buses.... man so many times i thought he was going to roll those things down the hill but they all manage to drive those things with absolute precision.

i really think people find them bad because what is consider rude here is absolutely normal for them back home.

i find p-plates, hoons, inexperience drivers who think they are good are much much worst. i have learn to live with woman drivers, esp the ones with the toorak trackors.

Asian drivers are shocking.

Also i've had numerous occassions where i've been driving along and they have just walked straight onto the road without looking. Happens all the time.

I think the majority of women are terrible drivers. However the ones that can drive are FAR more sensible then most men.

But I've sat in a cars with girls where they'll do the stupidest things.

Eg. Heavey traffic on the freeway, a little gap will build up ahead of them so they'll drive SUPER fast into the gap and SLAM the breaks on just before crashing.

I'm like.... "why on earth would you drive like that? You burn more petrol. Cause more damage to your car. Increase your risk of crashing by shit loads. And you don't get anywhere any faster."

Admittedly a lot of young guys drive like complete idiots. But it's not that they can't drive... It's that they're prepared to take stupid risks to look cool... Kinda like smoking cigarettes.

pls explain the perth situation.

From experience, when Perth drivers merge, generally what happens is that the cars that are merging onto the main road will almost come to a complete stop to allow the cars on the main road through. Those cars on the main road will almost never give way to merging traffic. The problem therefore is twofold. Generally speaking, Perth drivers don't know how to merge.

As for Asian drivers, I do tend to agree with the perceived "rudeness" of cutting in etc. I was born in Hong Kong and lived there for nine years, but I've spent most of my life in Perth and the contrast between the driving manners of these two cities couldn't be more different. Sure, you get rude, impatient drivers in Perth (I do fall into that category sometimes), but you rarely get people cutting in causing you to take evasive action to avoid a collision. Having said all that, however, there are certainly bad drivers that come in all shapes, sizes, colours, age and gender, so as far as I'm concerned, there's no need to discriminate. For instance, some P-platers I've seen are absolute arseholes on the road, while a lot of others obey the road rules and are polite and courteous.

This thread is getting silly. Almost every groups here is targeted. Asians, females, young people, old people, men in hats, lawn bowlers, nuns, Camry drivers, Honda CRV drivers, truckies ...

Somebody needs to do a statistical test instead of just saying, "The guy who crashed into me was Asian. Therefore, Asians are bad drivers." You don't need to be a mathematician to know that this is faulty reasoning.

Agreed and like you, im not a racist and cant be bothered reading the whole post, but has anyone mentioned the majority if not all of the Sudanese drivers? ... enough said.
