Just wondering what position you would rather be in. 6 trades, Ranked 250th (Similar to Judd Magic?) or 550th, 13 trades, $250k (Similar to me)?

Its an interesting one, its harder to make ground in the 2nd half of the year as teams get increasing similar. I also know injuries have a lot to do with it. What are everyones thoughts?

550th with 13 trades easily. Of course i havent seen your team but it must be reasonable for that Ranking. Disagree that its harder to make up ground in the 2nd half of the season. The football season is long and more players are sore/ get injured post round 10 onwards.

You will fly past teams like Judd Magic as injuries occur. Personally im ranked 1014th and ill back myself to fly past some teams with trades in hand.

I shoulda stayed in the big footy leagues this year, would have been in div 1 and dished out a spanking to Judd Magic :)

LMFAO! :p

I like getting spanked but not that kind of spanked. :D:thumbsu:

You make a few valid points. Sure I am going to need luck injury wise but like I said before I am only 3 premiums off a complete team.

If injuries are kind to me then I don't see why I can't keep heading upwards in the overall rankings. :thumbsu:

I reckon I am a good chance to crack top 100 this week considering last week I jumped up from 585 to 251 with a score of 2307. Haven't scored under 2000 once this season either and have only played with a dounut once with that being Ablett.

Your situation easily. You must only be a couple hundred points at the most behind.

You are three premiums off with only six trades in hand. So to get a full team you will need to use all those and sacrifice a lot of points due to future long term injuries.

Or, you can hold off and save trades for injuries - but then watch as rookies get dropped/rested later in the year.

Either way, not a good position.

Team as it stands:

Hodge, Goddard, Enright, Gilbee, Hurn, Shaw, Malceski (Maguire, Webberley)

Ablett, Swan, Selwood, Barlow, Scully, Howlett (Shuey, Banner)

Sandi, Clark (Lobbe, Bass)

Pav, ROK, Brown, Higgins, Goodes, Pods, Tippett (Rockliff, Gumby)

Depends how many you would call needing for upgrades. Pods I take it is a keeper. That leaves Tippett, Howlett, Scully.

This week I'll upgrade Scully to most like Montagna.

Leaves me with 12 trades, $60k, 2 upgrades?

Yeah i agree that you will keep rising up the rankings.... For a little while anyway. Round 14-15 onwards you will be looking at krispy kreme deluxe tho in my opinion.

You agree that a lot of teams are becoming increasingly similar though? I lose interest when there are only 5-7 different players per side. How many good midfields will read : Ablett, Swan, Selwood, Judd, Barlow, Dal/Montagna by Round 13? Unfortunately my unique players include Tippett and Clark. Hopefully they can both turn around their shocking starts to the season and provide their patient owners with some rewards.

Haven't finished outside the top 1000 since Supercoachs inception, however, I haven't finished closer than 400th. My 'Dad's team however 2 years ago finished 67th whilst picking up the $1000 weekly prize so probably shouldn't complain.

How many trades you sittting on? How many upgrades needed?

Maybe, maybe not.

I'll take my chances, have had great luck so far.

Will only use my last 6 trades when I really need to. if I have some left over near finals time for an upgrade then more power to me.

This is where having bench cover and being smart to use it for short term injuries will be important too. :thumbsu:

I only got the Ablett dounut as I had Shuey and JKT on the bench. Shuey will be back in a week or two so I shouldn't cop any more midfield crispy creme dounuts there. Have Gumby and Hitchcock in the forwards as cover and Webberly and Roberton (still believe he will be back at some stage) as cover in the backs.

Not too bad really.

I have ten trades left, I want one more gun midfielder, hopefully Judd. Possibly another good backman and i may bring Waite into forward position 8 next week for mpp for my whole team. My team has good depth tho with almost all bench players playing and MPP.

Last year came 104th, not having chapman this year has hurt me. Had him last year. Tippet is a good candidate for a retrospective abortion imo. Unfortunately he has no value atm either. Unfortunately im carrying Rioli as well but hell be on the bench this week, unless i downgrade him for Watts.

Man talk about jealousy and cutting down the tall poppy syndrome.

I can't help it that I'm doing so bloody brilliant. LOL!

I'll save my trades for when I need them. Waters, Maguire and Fyfe are doing their job and score well most times. Alot of people are even thinking of keeping Maguire or Waters as their 7th back.

And who knows, Fyfe could end up being this years Pods version 2.0. :D:thumbsu:

Either way I will at least do one more upgrade which will be either Waters/Maguire to Hurn/Gilbee, Lake, etc or Gumby to Riewoldt when he comes back. :)

I have no Rioli, Tippet or Clark stinking it up for me either and also have Chappy which not many people have. I was one of the ones smart enough to go Riewoldt > Chappy instead of Rioli or Brennan.

First year I haven't had Chappy. He WILL miss games with a hamstring.

it tend to disagree with what has been said above, it is quite easy to make up big ground in the later half of the season, that is if you have trades up your sleave and 22 players on the ground.

it is likely the people in the top few thousand will keep trading and upgrading in order to make ground and/or stay in the hunt, but come the end of the year when trades as scarces and teams are resting their champs the donut start to take over, this is where you can make up ground.

So when do you stop getting a full team and/or stop trading? Do you get a full team ASAP then keep approx 6-8 trades?

Whats the magic number of trades to have left?

A close enough to near full team and then about 6 trades for injuries sounds about right to me.

Hardly anyone is going to be able to upgrade their whole team to a bunch of premiums. Some players like a Maguire, Kennelly, etc will have to be kept.

how do u post a picture of our team, never seems to work for me?

1. sign up with photobucket (free)
2. printscreen your team, copy paste in paint or any similar program
3. crop image, save as 'myteamrulz'
4. upload it to your photbucket account
5. then it will give you a url for your picture
6. copy, paste the url into the 'insert image' button when you post.

sounds annoying long, but its worth it.

who do we think will have more points by the end of round 22:

Maguire or Waters?

Maguire. His scores should become more consistent and slightly higher when Merrett gets back. Waters seems to have moved into the forwards in three of the last four weeks and scores 50s there instead of his 80s in the back line.

I think you can drop to 6-8 trades about now and still be OK provided you back in your team as it is for a few rounds. If you still had 6 trades at round 15 and were ranked decently (say top 5000) I think you could come home strongly and make the top 500 or top 1000.

There's a trade rush up to about round 11 to get upgrades done and then it's whether you can hold off any more moves until you are sure you have any LTIs covered. In my situation, holding off from here (after one midfield upgrade I have spare cash for) means sitting on 7 trades and leaving Hunt & Maguire on the field and a rookie at F7 for a while. You have to keep your nerve if you get a bad score while you wait and I think you have to try to hold any short term injuries.

I think where people get it wrong is when they keep trading (upgrading) after round 12 when they have a near complete team or trade out every 2-3 week injury. Those 2 trades to upgrade Josh Hunt now for an extra 30 ppg may seem a luxury at round 19 when you have 2 premiums out that you could have covered with those 2 trades.

All of this is if you specifically want trades left at the end for league finals or peace of mind. If you want to get as many points on the board early and hope for the best (and run out of trades at round 18) then that can be a valid strategy for overall ranking glory. I know people last year who ran out of trades by round 17 or so and still ranked very highly.

Is it alright to keep Waters/Goose as keepers, at least until crunch time? Only have 7 trades left, and Cunnington, Waters and Goose are the only improvements I can see. I'm almost certain I'll keep one (probably Goose), but if I wanted to, could I keep both?
