Lions_Insider will we have a trade week wrap like we did during the Kerr years? Would love to see the insight, as well as some of the reactions it would bring on these boards.

Hi Lionheart,

David Noble is about to chat to Dom Fay and Michael Whiting for our Roar Deal podcast. This will be our main wrap of trade week. Will be out later this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Hey Lions_Insider, When do you expect the public to hear about the future of Close, William, Eagles, Hammelman & C.Beams & any other player who might be out of contract? I thought the club would have made these decisions already. Please confirm.

Hi,

Up to the footy department on when they make these decisions. We will have it up on our website as soon as we know.

Lions_Insider Hi, has the club requested anything in particular for the 2018 fixture. Days/times etc ?

Hi,

We request games that we think will bring good crowds to the Gabba, so the bigger Melbourne teams are on that list.

Also looking for timeslots that work well with families and around junior footy.

With the Broncos playing a few games on Sunday arvos in 2018, definitely want to avoid clashing with them.

The AFL fixture comes out next Tuesday which is exciting. The JLT fixture comes out tomorrow and the AFLW fixture is released Friday morning.

Has a decision been made yet on which player we are taking with Pick 1?

If so, I don't expect a name.

Just interesred to know whether there is a clear #1 in our eyes or if it's still in the melting pot.

If a decision has been made, we won't be finding out until November 24. Plenty of exciting players in the mix to go at Pick No. 1.

Hi Lions_Insider , I've had a man look on lions.com and I can't find when the boys start back at training, I always like to get down to the first session of the year, what date time and venue do the boys start back at?

1-4 year players are back November 6. Haven't received details on where they are training yet. There will be details going out to members next week on an open training session opportunity.

I wouldn't expect him to answer Luthors question but mine is asking for elaboration on conflicting media between Doms words today and Nobles words from the podcast. Asking to confirm if the latest media is correct or not is hardly asking for much.

Understand there has been some mixed messages going out on this. What David Noble said on the Roar Deal podcast is correct.

Lions_Insider, I understand if this is an unanswerable question but given the club has published contract lengths for every other player I was wondering if Charlie Cameron has signed an extended deal on joining the club or if he is still out of contract at the end of next year at the moment?

We collate the information for easy reference at https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/player-contract-status.1056345/ and Charlie is the only player who hasn't had his contract length revealed.

I know it might not be appropriate to ask these questions given the nature of AFL and if so just ignore but...

Does the club employ any specialised coaches? for example as sprint/running coaches etc.
Also I have read on Reddit that Port Adelaide are bolstering their sports analytics department. What have the Lions done to keep pace or even keep ahead of the other clubs in these regards?

Hi,

Good question. Every club is seeking 'marginal gains' that will give them the edge. The nature of the industry is pretty secretive, as club's don't want to give away any possible advantages to their competitors.

I would think almost every club is using specialist coaches for different aspects of training.

With Fagan, Noble and Damien Austin (high performance manager) here you can be confident that the club is always looking at new ways to do things that may improve the team's performance. Whether this is through new technology, recovery tools, specialist coaches, overseas trips to NFL clubs etc.

Sometimes these tools or methods become public knowledge, sometimes they don't. E.g. There was a feature on Damien and a sleep tracking watch that Richy was using recently:
Another example (from Sydney) and a tool that was used during pre-season by us: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...n/news-story/287ce8a77f64e1ef68ac8e82be30ca2b

It's hard to say whether we are ahead of other teams or not due to not knowing exactly what other teams are doing.

Unsure if there are any changes to the structure of the football department ahead of next season. We have a decent sized analytics department and this is definitely an area that is always growing and is regarded as extremely important.

He has signed on for four years.

Excellent. Thank you much appreciated.

And/or a Melbourne based one?

Hi guys,

At this stage there isn't a Brisbane based draft night planned. I will post if anything changes.

There is a Melbourne based draft night but it has already reached capacity. If you would like to go on the waitlist for the event please email our Melbourne office (melbourne@lions.com.au).

Is anything being streamed?

Out of interest where was the Melbourne one advertised? I've not seen anything about one.
