Would like to eventually phase out Cornes and maybe Montgomery and replace them too

Yeah, but who with?

Who are our targets for those line coach roles?

I think Port's only real chance to deck our squad out with really good assistants is if they get a Damien Hardwick multiple premiership coach in the future and they can convince good people to come here.

It's so dumb that the biggest issue about getting people to Port is the state that it is located.

"I'd love to come to Port but it's in South Australia"

If Damian Barrett can be believed… Then it will be Josh Carr and a succession plan.

So…

Ken - Head Coach
Carr - Snr Assistant
?? - Forward
Montgomery - Midfield
Cornes - Defence
Basset - Reserves
Goldsack - Development
Kelly - Development

Then we will need at least one more assistant to cover Basset, possibly two if Montgomery leaves.

Does Burgoyne play a role?
Does Chadbro stay in defence?
Chadbro needs to gtfo

Why would Port plan to just give the job to Josh Carr without any kind of selection process? I know our admin is rubbish but that would be bizarre even for them.

Have a look at the comments from Ross Lyon recently on the Essendon selection process. What garbage and HR guff it's all become.

Selection process means you are great at presentations, interviewing, etc. How many times have you seen that bloke at work that can waffle on about how good he or she is get promoted, when you know they have no idea.

Being good in a selection process is one piece, being a winner is another.

From recollection all our coaches are contracted for next year.
Outside of Monty, have any of them done the level 4 AFL coaching course or anything in regards to higher development?

Bass seems to have solid skills in regards to development and SANFL level head coaching. He, like Hinkley, has probably had his time at Port. I’m not sure he gets picked up by anyone else. So maybe the magpies is a smart move for him and us - tell him to win us a flag and develop our list.

Don’t have a read on Kelly.

Monty was highly regarded and then had the falling out with Bevo. I wouldn’t mind giving him different role.

Chad - I’m not sure what he has done to warrant a senior gig. If he is staying on, then he needs to be doing something to build his coaching abilities in the off season. Personally I would let him go, but, if he is contracted, then make him a development coach.

So maybe
Forwards - Monty
Mids - Carr
Defence - ?Graham ?Rutten ?Hansen

Wouldn’t mind us getting in Lappin - he has done wonders for Geelong’s ball movement. Cox and Matthews from Sydney would be solid as well.

Steven King is highly thought of from the dogs and now suns.

Is Francou worth a look?

Could Schofield be enticed back as the senior assistant as he wanted before leaving?

A process is key for coach selection. Sure you probably have someone in mind but it’s critical to make the process robust and to entertain all candidates. It would shambolic to bring in Carr to be the next head coach, without looking at other quality candidates. Yze, King, Hansen, Graham, Pyke, Caracella, Monty, Schofield, Cox, Harvey - all high quality options. What puts Carr ahead of them? Not saying he isn’t a great option either.

Lots of rumours about Schofield and his tenure at Port and how how it ended, but have they ever been backed up with facts? It gets talked about as factual on here but not sure that’s the case.
Not sure it ever will be cleared up.

All we know is that he was ‘highly rated’, players seemed to like him, extended his contracted and then several months later left for a senior assistant (so step up gig) at the Eagles.

There are rumours of him not liking the coaching style, or blow ups with Ken or the other coaches, - if those were the case, and significant enough to need to leave, why extend your contract only to leave a month or two later? If the friction was significant enough why did the board or Ken support his contract extension.

He was in an assistant gig, can’t be poached unless it’s for advancement. West coast offered him a better gig, port refused to offer him what he wanted. Not sure there is much more to it than that.

Hinkley would need to go.

I heard that he told ken there's more to coaching tactics than "working hardery". Daddy donuts told him to "have a good day"
