With the sycophant Cornes now joining in with the media managed Barrett reporting this, surely there's a where there's smoke there's fire situation here. And if the club is really looking at bringing in Carr to be senior assistant with a view to him being head coach in 2024, then what are we achieving by not doing this sooner? If we're paying Donuts anyway, can we not just slide him into some bullshit Director of Coaching role and let Joshy do his thing, starting right now?

We don't seem to have the coin or fortitude and Kenny wants his $ and won't walk.

Stale mate.

But has anyone bar some posters here called it a succession plan?

Damian Barrett in his article said

And that is the truth. I said a while back that whoever is appointed as senior assistant is perched on Ken's shoulder, just waiting.

I don't think it's about coin or fortitude. We have serious debt to the AFL and if we sack him we take a hit to our soft cap which will impact our ability to fill more off-field positions.

So get the off-field positions filled and then we are in the best position to move forward when he is out of contract.

Clubs and players back their coaches right up to the point they're let go.

Public pronouncements mean nothing. The club is going to present a unified front to the members. They're para-military like that.
Fair call all round.

I’ve gone off a little early in labelling it a succession plan. Saw red at another perceived F up.

What’s your opinion if it is a succession plan?

Out of interest, why is Carr better placed than Bassett or Monty? Or any other senior assistant?

And, if as rumoured, Schoey left because he wasn’t given the senior assistant gig he was after, why is Carr favoured to be given the gig?

But overall not a bad addition to the group. Rutten likewise would be handy but don’t think he leaves Melbourne. Is the Graham rumour a thing?

I’m keen to see what that means for the current group (especially as they all are contracted) - moving some on or reshuffle?

This photo really highlights how much Hinkley has aged physically in a few short years. Comparing this to now is almost like comparing a photo of peak Pee-Wee Herman to the Paul Rubens police mug shot after the pornography incident.

I'm around the same age as Ken and I probably have the same level of ageing hit me in that period. Life is cruel.

In no way disagreeing Ford but considering PAFC management rolled over when Hinkley demanded the performance clause be removed from his contract, nothing would surprise.

I can imagine it now, "Hey, Kenny what do you think of this succession plan?"
Exactly, our admin would never do anything to upset Ken. They value how Ken feels above the welfare of the club.

I don't know much about Carry's coaching chops. He was an assistant at Port for a while, took over his own team at North and won a flag, from what I hear is highly rated by people at Freo.

He's tough, smart and a winner.

I would think we've been quietly sounding out candidates behind the scenes. If Josh has come across as the best of them, well that's their judgement call. he would be well-received by the Port faithful.

I don't think he will be the only new addition to the group. If he's senior assistant he will be filling the empty Voss post.

I've said before I wouldn't be surprised to see Monty leave, Cornes go back to development and running, and Lokan to move on.

Some wear is better than others though, and Ken looks like he's had a really rough few years. I always look at someone like
a Jason Lee, who is around my age. He looks his age, but you can see he's been living his best life. Ken Hinkley looks like he's been living off the contents of the fat vats of the Soto's chips fryer.

If this turns out to be a succession plan it's a good thing, as long as it's made public so members can make an informed decision if they want to continue as members or not.

It's about time this club stopped letting the tail wag the dog, so if this happens it can only be a good thing imo.

I think this is a key. For whatever reasons, Hinkley has a lot of love among a certain section of the Port fan base. A tough sell becomes a little easier with these people if it's a person they're already endeared to.

It’s all about optics due to the AFL imo. Can’t sack him, but there are other ways to skin a cat.

Went to the link from the Kane Cornes article, had to laugh whilst readin it as on the right was another story which made me think, carn Kenny, why don't you give Essington a call?

I don't think that can be under-estimated finbarr.

Prior to Covid we were in the Black Diamond seats and saw an acquaintance with a large group in the corporate boxes. All were members but previously dined/watched all Port games behind glass They were totally stunned by the atmosphere and how loud the crowd was especially when NTUA was belted out.
They were little more than a social group who had no idea what Port Adelaide was about. That was the first time the group had been out and about in the crowd.

They would be the type you have mentioned - sadly.

If we were a Victorian club they would have parachuted him into a cushy job at AFL House and set us free cough*BradScott*cough

This would be the most ideal scenario going into 2023. Cornes is no AFL level assistant. He has the brain to run but not the brains to coach.

Is that the one where after you have got down on your hands and knees to check something on the car you then have to slowly pull your way back to an upright position via the door handles?

Possibly but when you get down there you have forgotten why you found it necessary to get down there in the first place:oops:
