Says a lot about the Collingwood footy club the way Buckley and players have supported Longmuir in his ambition to senior coach, but also backing him in the finals campaign.

I'm glad that Fremantle seemingly waited until our season was over also. Wishing him the best and agree with other posters, this is a huge loss for us.

Sad to see him go with a year still to run , but we've done the right thing by him and hopefully karma brings us a top notch ruck/stoppage coach

This feels like a big loss to me.
Was brought in specifically to improve our defensive structure and has done a brilliant job these past two seasons and often under difficult circumstances due to injured personnel.
Like Caracella at Richmond I guess we'll find out next year one way or another what the true value of a talented assistant coach is when it comes to team performance and what if any implications it has for the reputation of the senior coach.
I hope we set the bar very high in looking for his replacement and don't rush into making a decision based on convenience, personal relationship or price tag.
This good enough mindset is something that we could fall into prior to the Murphy review IMO.

This is a massive loss. Imo, he’s the reason why we have surged into contention. Defensive structures are amazing.

Ex players don’t make good coaches at the club they played at.

It would seem that Longmuir has the pedigree to be a quality senior coach. Nine year apprenticeship across both the WCE and the Pies. Arguably a perfect entree into senior coaching. In a hypothetical world, if our incumbent senior coach and Longmuir were battling for the Pies senior coaching position right now, which way do you think Big Ed would go (that's a no brainer) but more poignantly, as supporters, which way would you want Big Ed to go?
